Students will learn the rules and procedures of P.E. class. Students will be put into squads that they will be in for the entire semester. Students will begin learning the warm up routine used for our activities. We will build upon these warm ups as the year progresses. Students will learn the history, rules and strategies of soccer. Students will do various drills to practice the soccer skills of trapping, dribbling, heading and goal kicking. Students will play various lead up games before playing the actual game of soccer. Students will review the five components of the Presidential Fitness Challenge: shuttle run, sit and reach, sit-ups, pull ups/push ups/flexed arm hang, and the endurance run. Students will be allowed to practice each component before we formal test them in each of the five areas. These scores will be recorded and kept from year to year to gauge each student’s progress.

Students will learn the rules of kickball. Students will do drill to practice kicking and catching a ball. Students will play an actual game of kickball. Students will learn the rules and strategies of volleyball. Students will do various drills to practice the skills of passing, setting, and serving. Students will do various lead up games before playing the actual game of volleyball. Students will play a tournament of animal tag. Each squad will choose an animal name to call their squad. Each animal team has a chance to be the taggers in a game of tag. The animal team that tags the most people will be the winners.

Students will learn some basic rules to bowling. Students will learn the correct hand - grip and footwork for bowling. Students will do various practice games before competing in a tournament amongst their class. Students will learn the rules and strategies of basketball. Students will do various drills to practice the skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting a basketball. Students will play various lead up games before playing the actual game of basketball. Students (Grades 3-5) will learn the basic skills of skating. Students will be doing various drills to enhance their skating abilities. Students will also be playing numerous lead up games while skating. While the older grades are doing a skating unit, grades K-2 will be doing a tag unit. Students will learn different tag games that they can use at recess time. |

Students will learn the rules and strategies of hockey. Students will do various drills to practice the skills of shooting and passing the puck. Students will play lead up games of hockey before playing an actual game of hockey. Students will learn the basic jump roping skills. We will discuss how to pick the appropriate jump rope for your height. Students will do various lead up games and relay races. All students will be taught the basic jump. The more advanced jumpers will be taught the double bounce jump, side swing jump, double side swing jump, and the front cross jump. We will also do partner jumping, long rope jumping and double Dutch jumping. Students will learn the basic skills of how to throw and catch a softball. We will be using wiffle balls instead of actual softballs for safety. Students will do partner drills and lead up games. Students will learn the history of the Olympics. We will do various events depending upon the weather and schedule (i.e. field trips) including: endurance run, sprints, softball throw, long jump, hula-hoops, and jump ropes.
