College Information/College Fairs/Job Information

*October 21st: ICE College Fair  (more info to come later)

*The priority deadline to send in your application to the University of Illinois (Urbana/Champaign) has been moved to a postmark of November 1st.  The regular freshman deadline is January 2.   

*The Jesuit College Fair will be held September 9th from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza in Clayton, MO.  14 Jesuit colleges/universities will be represented to speak with interested students. 

*New Visit Program @ U of I: On September 13, they are hosting an Admissions Tailgate prior to the Illinois vs. Louisiana Lafayette home football game. Students attending will receive a complimentary football ticket and family members accompanying their students will be able to purchase tickets at reduced rates. The reduced ticket prices will be $22 per ticket and will be paid at the event by cash or check made payable to the University of Illinois. Space is limited and reservations must be made in advance. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE WILL VISIT VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL TO SPEAK WITH PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE A PASS TO VISIT WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE, PLEASE SIGN UP ON THE HIGH SCHOOL OFFICE WINDOW AT LEAST 24 HOURS PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED VISIT.  MRS. KARSTEN WILL WRITE YOU A PASS ONCE YOU SIGN UP.

Miscellaneous Announcements

  • All Grade 12 students have the opportunity to improve their Prairie State Achievement Exam scores by retaking both Day 1 (The ACT plus Writing) and Day 2 (ISBE-developed Science test & WorkKeys Assessment) of the PSAE in October 2008.  If you are interested, see Mrs. Karsten for registration materials.  You will take the ACT at a National Test Site on October 25th and Day 2 testing will be held at Valmeyer High School on October 28th.

 

  • The next ACT test date is October 25, 2008. The regular registration deadline is September 19th and the late registration deadline is October 3rd ($20 late fee applies).   Register online at www.actstudent.org or see Mrs. Karsten for a paper packet.  Mrs. Karsten also has prep materials available in the high school office. 

 

  • We need more Big Brothers/Big Sisters for our program at school.  See Mrs. Karsten is you are an interested student in grades 10-12.

 

  • IF YOU'VE MADE A DIFFERENCE THIS PAST YEAR VOLUNTEERING IN YOUR COMMUNITY, YOU COULD WIN $1,000 AND A TIRP TO WASHINGTON, D.C. NEXT MAY!  The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards application is available at www.prudential.com/spirit or principals.org/prudential and click on th eapplication link and follow the on-screen instructions.  When asked for the access key, type the word spirit.  Once you've completed it, print it, sign it and have a parent sign it.  Submit your application to your school principal or counselor.
