            NOTICE FROM THE SCHOOL – All book bills, cafeteria bills, library materials, and fines are past due and must be cleared before the last day of School.

 

The Valmeyer FFA rolled out the Spring color with their Annual Spring Plant Sale.  They will be open this Saturday, May 3 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.  They have a wide variety of hanging baskets and bedding plants.  You can also visit their greenhouses during School days from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. or from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m.

 

DON’T MISS THE ST. JOHN UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST – VALMEYER GOLF TOURNAMENT.  The 4-person scramble will be at Acorns Golf Links on May 3 with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start.  Cost of the tournament is $70 per golfer which includes greens fees, a cart and a noon lunch buffet.  For more information or reservations contact Brad Rippelmeyer at 618-580-4166 or Dan McCarthy at 618-593-6971.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the ANNUAL VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI BANQUET AND DANCE – Saturday, May 10, 2008 – Dinner / Banquet – 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary Parish Hall in Valmeyer, with the Dance to follow from 8:00 p.m. to Midnight also at the Parish Hall.  Tickets – Dinner and Dance - $20, Dinner only - $15 and Dance only - $5.  Tickets will be available at Valmeyer Village Hall, First Bank in Valmeyer, State Bank in Valmeyer and Mike’s Convenience Store . . . or call Candace Eckart at 520-8356, Mark Baum at 791-3229 or Jenny (Hawkins) Kohnz at 935-0512.  The classes of 1958-(50 year) and 1983-(25 year) will be honored.  The Most Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Mr. Robert Mohr.  Dinner will be catered by Papa Vito’s, and beverages will be available for purchase from the Valmeyer Columbus Club.  Musical entertainment from rock to country will be provided by “Fountain Creek Band.”  Come and enjoy the this Annual event, and help to christen the new St. Mary facility – you’ll be able to say you were one of the first to celebrate at the new Parish Hall.

 

ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT TO BUY FOREVER STAMPS AT 41 CENTS . . . There’s just a few days left to buy Forever stamps at the current price of 41 cents.  The price of a postage stamp increases one cent to 42 cents on May 12.  “The stamp is a hit with our customers as they prepare for the stamp price increase,” said Alice Wellen.  The Forever stamp purchased at the 41-cent rate remains valid for full postage after the increase.  For more information contact the Valmeyer Post Office.

 

            SPORTS PHYSICALS for Junior High and High School athletes will be on Wednesday, May 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Cost is $25 and that money will be reimbursed to the Valmeyer School athletic program.  Dr. Pickett of Family Practice Associates in Waterloo will be performing the physicals, and they will be done in the Junior High Gym.  Please call Nathan McSchooler at 935-2100, extension 129 for more information.

 

            Need a place to hold a wedding reception, bridal shower, wedding shower, graduation party, Christmas party or family reunion?????  Reservations are now being accepted for the St. Mary Parish Center in Valmeyer (now under construction) for events planned June, 2008 and later.  Call 935-2400 and leave a voice message or send an email to parishcenter@stmaryvalmeyer.org.  The reservationist will respond with more information on bookings.

The Valmeyer Village Board of Trustees has authorized the formation of a committee to begin planning festivities and events for the Centennial of the Village to be celebrated during 2009.  Anyone interested in serving on that committee should contact Laurie Brown, Village Clerk.

 

            Valmeyer will be serving as a IEPA Household Hazardous Waste Collection site on Saturday, June 7.  The site will be set up on the location of the former Schneider’s Store parking lot on Lake Street in the original part of town.  The event is being locally sponsored by the Monroe-Randolph Bi-County Health Department and the Valmeyer High School Science Club.  ACCEPTABLE ITEMS INCLUDE: oil based paints, used motor oil, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, old gasoline, pool chemicals, cleaning products, mercury, medicines, household batteries, paint thinners, lawn chemicals, solvents, antifreeze, hobby chemicals, aerosol paints and pesticides, fluorescent lamp bulbs and drain cleaners.  PLEASE DO NOT BRING LATEX PAINTS.  UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS INCLUDE:  Agricultural wastes, business or commercial sector wastes, explosives, fireworks, lead acid batteries, propane tanks, smoke detectors, farm machinery oil, fire extinguishers, or institutional wastes.  Watch for future announcements of the scheduled times for this event on this date.

 

            A MESSAGE FROM VALMEYER SCHOOL . . . . . Through a Mini Grant received from the Perandoe Special Education District, the Valmeyer Elementary School has been able to purchase AIMSweb Pro Complete and provide Professional Development to twelve of the teachers this Spring.  The K-3 students were benchmarked in the Fall and interventions have been implemented and progress monitored for the students who are experiencing difficulty in reading.  With the use of the funds obtained through the mini-grant, The AIMSweb system of progress monitoring and charting graphs was learned.  The goal is to expand the current RtI strategies throughout the building, including the upper elementary, junior high and high school levels in the near future.
