                Thursday, January 24 – High School Girls Basketball at Dupo – 6:15 p.m.

                Friday, January 25 – High School Boys Basketball vs. Lebanon at HOME – 6:15 p.m.

 

                The Valmeyer Music Boosters holding their annual Dinner / Auction / Theater event on Saturday, March 15.  The theme for this year’s event is “WELCOME TO PIRATE ISLAND.”  They are looking for items to be donated for the silent and live auction to be held in conjunction with that event.  If you’re looking for an idea – how about going together with family members and donating a themed-basket for the silent auction?  If you have any questions about auction donations, contact a committee member – Gayle McCarthy, Teena Riechmann or Zoe Ann Schwarze.

 

                At the most recent meeting of the Valmeyer Village Board, the Trustees authorized the formation of a committee to begin planning festivities and events for the Centennial of the Village to be celebrated during 2009.  Anyone interested in serving on that committee should contact Laurie Brown, Village Clerk.

                Nomination forms are currently available for members to be inducted into the VALMEYER SCHOOL MUSIC HALL OF FAME in the Spring of 2008.  Those applications can be obtained from Marcia Braswell or Mike Alexander at Valmeyer School.   The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, January 18, 2008.

 

                If you would like to be part of the Parent Planning Committee for the 2008 Post Prom, please come to a meeting on January 16 in the Teacher’s Lounge at School at 7:00 p.m.  Parents are needed to help plan this year’s 3rd Annual VHS Post Prom.  For more information, contact Becky Karsten at 935-2100, extension 205 or at bkarsten@valmeyerk12.org.

                LOCAL BANK SUPER-SIZES SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS . . . . . State Bank of Waterloo announces a scholarship competition that enables Illinois High School Seniors to enter a statewide essay-writing contest.  It is all part of a program sponsored by Illinois community banks and the CBAI Foundation for Community Banking to increase public awareness of locally owned banks and their contributions to the community.  A scholarship in the amount of $1,000 a year for up to four years of higher education will be awarded to the author of the best essay submitted to the CBAI Foundation.  This year, State Bank is also offering three local scholarships in conjunction with the CBAI competition.  The bank will award a Senior from Waterloo, Gibault and Valmeyer High Schools a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 a year for up to four years of post secondary education.  The same entries sent to the state competition will be judged locally.  The bank is working with these three High Schools to invite Seniors to submit short essays on the theme “What Sets Community Banks Apart From the Large Banks?”  Information on the contest is available at each of the High Schools or by contacting Mark Altadonna at State Bank by phone at 939-7194 or by email at marka@statebankofwaterloo.com.  Entries must be submitted to the bank by February 4, 2008.  The bank will then submit selected entries to the CBAI Foundation to be eligible for the statewide competition.
