Valmeyer Music Boosters holding their annual Dinner /
Auction / Theater event on Saturday, March 15.
The theme for this year’s event is “WELCOME TO PIRATE ISLAND.” They are looking for items to be donated for
the silent and live auction to be held in conjunction with that event. If you’re looking for an idea – how about
going together with family members and donating a themed-basket
for the silent auction? If you have any
questions about auction donations, contact a committee member – Gayle McCarthy,
Teena Riechmann or Zoe Ann Schwarze.
At
the most recent meeting of the Valmeyer Village Board,
the Trustees authorized the formation of a committee to begin planning
festivities and events for the Centennial of the Village to be
celebrated during 2009. Anyone
interested in serving on that committee should contact Laurie Brown, Village
Clerk.

LOCAL BANK SUPER-SIZES
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS . . . . . State Bank of Waterloo
announces a scholarship competition that enables Illinois High School Seniors
to enter a statewide essay-writing contest.
It is all part of a program sponsored by Illinois community banks and the
CBAI Foundation for Community Banking to increase public awareness of locally
owned banks and their contributions to the community. A scholarship in the amount of $1,000 a year
for up to four years of higher education will be awarded to the author of the
best essay submitted to the CBAI Foundation.
This year, State Bank is also offering three local scholarships in
conjunction with the CBAI competition.
The bank will award a Senior from Waterloo, Gibault
and Valmeyer High Schools a scholarship in the amount
of $1,000 a year for up to four years of post secondary education. The same entries sent to the state
competition will be judged locally. The
bank is working with these three High Schools to invite Seniors to submit short
essays on the theme “What Sets Community Banks Apart From the Large
Banks?” Information on the contest is
available at each of the High Schools or by contacting Mark Altadonna
at State Bank by phone at 939-7194 or by email at marka@statebankofwaterloo.com. Entries must be submitted to
the bank by February 4, 2008. The bank will then submit selected entries to
the CBAI Foundation to be eligible for the statewide competition.
