The
students of Valmeyer Elementary and Junior High are
jumping at the chance to help fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No.
1 and No. 2 killers. The week of March
31 – April 4, the students for Valmeyer Elementary
Grades K-5 will jump rope during P.E. classes for
their Jump Rope
For Heart event and grades 6-8 will be playing
basketball for their Hoops for Heart event to raise funds for the
American Heart Association, which funds cardiovascular disease research and
public and professional education programs.
Did you know that children age 2 and older should get at least an hour
of physical activity every day? Did you
know the average heart beats 100,000 times each day? Jump Rope For Heart is co-sponsored by the
American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance. Jump
Rope For Heart has been teaching kids the importance of a healthy heart and
raising funds for heart disease and stroke research for more than 25
years. Please help our children help
others. When a student asks you to be a
sponsor, support Jump Rope For Heart with whatever you can afford to give. If you would like to help more, call
1-800-AHA-USA1. If you have any
questions regarding the event, contact Jenny Kohnz at

WE AREN’T JUST BLUFFING –
SATURDAY, APRIL 26 – The Salt Lick Stewardship Committee, the Kaskaskia Valley Audubon Society and CLIFFTOP are jointly
hosting a morning hike at Salt Lick . The public is welcome to attend the
interpretive jaunt. Those interested are

the left of the Rock City entrance gate, just north of the original town of Valmeyer on Bluff Road.
Good walking shoes, perhaps a walking stick, binoculars for those who
wish to do some spring birding and water are recommended for the
moderate-to-difficult trail hike. . . . . Salt Lick Point, a 450-acre tract of

12 high-quality hill prairies, seven lovely limestone glades, gorgeous racks of
limestone cliffs and stunning runs of upland forest. The reserve is open to the public. Salt Lick is the highest point in Monroe County
at elevation 810 feet, and provides breathtaking vistas of the American
Bottoms. The Salt Lick Point Stewardship
Committee and the Valmeyer Boy Scout Troop recently
completed a mile and a half public trail at the site.
The Valmeyer Village Board of Trustees has authorized the
formation of a committee to begin planning festivities and events for the Centennial of the Village to be celebrated during 2009. Anyone interested in serving on that
committee should contact Laurie Brown, Village Clerk.
