FROM THE DESK OF DONNA
MUELLER, K-8 PRINCIPAL AND HATTIE DOYLE, HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL - - - The Illinois Office of
Education has approved Parent-Teacher conferences for the Valmeyer
School District on Thursday and Friday, November 1 and 2. Students will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. on
Thursday, November 1 and conferences will begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 8:00
p.m. On Friday, November 2 conferences
will be held from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.
Students will not be in attendance so that parents and teachers may meet
together to discuss ways in which teachers and parents can help each other to
help the student. Some parents feel that
they need to attend only if there is a problem.
We want to share the positive side with you, too, so please make a
supreme effort to meet with your child’s teachers. Our goal is 100% parent attendance. The conference has five major objectives: (1) Foster a positive relationship between
teacher and parent. (2) Plan cooperatively so that the student feels
a sense of confidence and security through the friendship of parent and
teacher. (3) Discuss common goals for the student which are appropriate to his / her stage of
development. (4) Share observations
about the student, which parent and teacher interpret together. (5) Interpret to the parent the student’s experiences at school
and how he / she is responding to them.
A fifteen minute conference will be scheduled with each teacher with
whom you request a conference in grades PreK-5.
If you feel fifteen minutes is not sufficient time with a teacher,
please indicate that on your request form.
Conferences will be held in the homeroom of individual teachers. Report cards for Elementary students (K-5)
will be given to the parents at the conference.
Parent / teacher conferences for grades 6-8 will be in the teacher’s
homeroom. Junior High students will
bring their report cards home on Friday, October 26. Junior High parents should call Mrs. Karsten
to schedule an appointment for parent / teacher conferences. You may begin calling on Monday, October
22. The phone number is 935-2100,
extension 205. Parent / teacher conferences
for High School students will be scheduled by appointment. Report cards for High School students will be
mailed to parents on Friday, October 26.
To schedule an appointment, please call Mrs. Karsten at 935-2100,
extension 205 beginning on Monday, October 22.

During 2009, the Village of Valmeyer will celebrate its Centennial. Valmeyer was
officially founded as a Village in 1909.
To commemorate this celebration, I am working on the publication of a
history book for the Village. I would
appreciate hearing from anyone who has any photographs of the Village
throughout its history, from the earliest of times to current years. Photos of buildings, activities, holiday
festivals, cultural events – whatever you may have – all time periods and all
events are important in documenting the history of Valmeyer. Photos will be borrowed long enough to scan
and then will be immediately returned to the owners. If you have any information to contribute,
please contact me at 935-2142 or by email at knobloch@htc.net. Thanks,
Dennis.
