The VALMEYER VIKINGS is a new select baseball team made up of Valmeyer boys.  The team is selling Entertainment books as a way to make money for league fees, tournament fees, uniforms and equipment.  The 2008 Entertainment book is $25.00, and the GoldC book is $10.00.  Anyone interested in purchasing books can contact Susan Unterseh at 935-2370 or Eric Seidler at 935-1818.

 

VALMEYER FFA GARDEN MUMS – in the FFA Greenhouse behind the Ag Shop at Valmeyer High School.  The Greenhouse will also be open on School days from Noon to 12:45 p.m.  If you would like to place an order by phone call 935-2100, extension 102.

 

                The Valmeyer Lions Club will have their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 3.  They begin the evening with dinner at the Corner Pub at 6:30 p.m.  Then they will move to the Firehouse for their 7:30 meeting.  The Valmeyer Lions are always looking for new members who are interested in community involvement.  The Lions will also have a stand at the Oktoberfest in Maeystown on October 14th.

 

                STATE BANK OF WATERLOO will have a Grand Opening at their new Valmeyer Banking Center on Saturday, October 6 beginning with a ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m.  From Noon to 3:00 p.m. they will have food, drinks, fun for the kids and giveaways.  Stop by and welcome this new business to the community.

 

                MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the 5th ANNUAL VALMEYER AREA JAYCEES GOLF TOURNAMENT – Saturday, October 6 at the Acorns Golf Links – 4 person scramble with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start.  The cost of $70 per person includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, beverages for 5 hours and buffet dinner.  Reservations are requested, but not required – walk ins are welcome.  For reservations call 935-2611.

 

                MARK YOUR CALENDARS – The Valmeyer High School National Honor Society and the American Red Cross would like to invite you to come and donate blood on October 12 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.  The blood drive will take place in the High School gym.  Come help save lives and at the same time receive a complimentary t-shirt along with free food, drinks and attendance prizes.  Please contact Kelly Rowold at 935-2100, extension 122 or by email at krowold@valmeyerk12.org if you would like to make an appointment to donate and / or if you have questions.

 

                MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the Valmeyer High School fall musical production of “South Pacific” which will take to the VHS stage on Friday, October 19 – Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21.

 

                FLU SHOTS sponsored by First Bank and the Monroe-Randolph Bi-County Health Department – Tuesday, October 30 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at First Bank in Valmeyer.  The cost is $30 or FREE with a Medicare Part B Card.

 

                MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the ANNUAL VALMEYER PTO CHRISTMAS BAZAAR to be held on Sunday, November 11 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the School.  Food and refreshments will be available during the day.  For those wanting to reserve a table to sell your wares, contact Elaine Beckman at 935-2228.  Cost for reserving a table is $20, and no commission will be charge on sales made that day. 

 

                During 2009, the Village of Valmeyer will celebrate its Centennial.  Valmeyer was officially founded as a Village in 1909.  To commemorate this celebration, I am working on the publication of a history book for the Village.   I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any photographs of the Village throughout its history, from the earliest of times to current years.  Photos of buildings, activities, holiday festivals, cultural events – whatever you may have – all time periods and all events are important in documenting the history of Valmeyer.  Photos will be borrowed long enough to scan and then will be immediately returned to the owners.  If you have any information to contribute, please contact me at 935-2142 or by email at knobloch@htc.net.  Thanks, Dennis.
