A large crowd was on hand this past
Sunday at Borsch Park to witness the planting of a tree in memory of Vernon Schaefer. Vernon grew up on, and later moved back to a
farm south of Valmeyer, and dedicated a large tract of his wooded bluff ground
as a nature preserve. Many of the people
on hand also attended the dedication ceremony for the Salt Lick Point
Land and Water Reserve Nature Trail. This trail was
recently completed by members of the Village Salt Lick Committee, along with
the dedicated efforts of local Valmeyer Scout Troop #345 under the direction of
Scoutmaster Rick Roever. Quite a few of
those in attendance also took the inaugural walk on the newly dedicated trail.
A reminder to Valmeyer residents . .
. on the first and third Thursday of each month, curbside recycling takes place in the
Village. Items can be co-mingled in your
trash container, but should be kept separate from your regular trash on these
pickup days. Those items that can be
recycled include glass, type 1 and 2 plastics, tin and aluminum cans. If you have any questions about Village
recycling, contact Village Hall. Please
take advantage of this service provide to you by the Village, and at the same
time you will be doing your part to help our environment.

During 2009, the Village of
Valmeyer will celebrate its Centennial. Valmeyer was
officially founded as a Village in 1909.
To commemorate this celebration, I am working on the publication of a
history book for the Village. I would appreciate
hearing from anyone who has any photographs of the Village throughout its
history, from the earliest of times to current years. Photos of buildings, activities, holiday
festivals, cultural events whatever you may have all time periods and all
events are important in documenting the history of Valmeyer. Photos will be borrowed long enough to scan
and then will be immediately returned to the owners. If you have any information to contribute,
please contact me at 935-2142 or by email at knobloch@htc.net. Thanks,
Dennis.
