THIS WEEK AT SCHOOL:
Monday,
May 21 – Last day of school – students dismissed at 9:51 a.m.
A new COMPREHENSIVE PLAN has been completed for the
Village of Valmeyer.
Members of the Comprehensive Plan Committee worked hard during the last
year collecting information from the Community Survey, Community Meeting and at
numerous information gathering meetings.
Anyone interested in reviewing a copy of the plan can stop by the
Village office. The Village Board plans
to officially adopt this plan at their meeting on Tuesday, June 5th.
Regular meeting of the Valmeyer
Senior Citizens will be on Wednesday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the
Emergency Services Building.
DAYTIME DISCOVERIES will hold Registration Days on Wednesday,
May 23 and Thursday, May 24 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Stop by and check out this new business in Valmeyer!!!
The Valmeyer American Legion
Post 901 and its Auxiliary will hold a Memorial Day Service at the Legion
Hall at 618 S. Meyer Avenue on Monday, May 28 at 10:00 a.m. Please note the change of time from previous
years. Guest speaker will be James M. Heinen, and Air Force veteran from Belleville. He is a distinguished military graduate of
the St. Louis Corps of Cadets, and served as a missile combat crew commander at
Vandenberg AFB in California, and at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. In lieu of a member picnic this year, the
Legion will serve brunch to all attending the Memorial Day service. The Auxiliary will provide finger foods, desserts,
coffee and lemonade. The brunch is open
to the public. On Friday, May 25,
poppies will be available at Mike’s Convenience Store, First Bank and The
Corner Pub. You can also get a poppy at
the Memorial Day service. The American
Legion urges everyone to wear a poppy in honor of our fallen heroes.
2007 VHS
Yearbooks are on sale. Call the School
at 935-2100, extension 128, and leave a message for Ms. Chilovich
that you would like to order a yearbook.
The cost per book is $42. The
yearbook is also selling advertisements for the 2007 Yearbook. If you would like to purchase an ad for your
business or a graduating Senior, you may still purchase ads until the end of
May.
During 2009, the Village of Valmeyer
will celebrate its Centennial. Valmeyer was officially founded as a Village in 1909. To commemorate this celebration, I am working
on the publication of a history book for the Village. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who
has any photographs of the Village throughout its history, from the earliest of
times to current years. Photos of
buildings, activities, holiday festivals, cultural events – whatever you may
have – all time periods and all events are important in documenting the history
of Valmeyer.
Photos will be borrowed long enough to scan and then will be immediately
returned to the owners. Compiling this
book will take some time, so that is the reason for the early start. If you have any information to contribute,
please contact me at 935-2142 or by email at knobloch@htc.net. Thanks, Dennis.
