                        Basketball in Affton Holiday Tournament.

            Monday, December 24 – Wednesday, January 2 – NO SCHOOL – Christmas break.

            Thursday, January 3 – School resumes

            Saturday, January 5 – High School Girls Basketball at Red Bud – 10:00 a.m.

            Saturday, January 5 – High School Boys Basketball at Marissa – 6:15 p.m.

 

            Valmeyer Jaycees Golden Age Breakfast – Sunday, December 30 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon at the Valmeyer American Legion Home.  Any Valmeyer-area resident over the age of 50 is invited to a breakfast compliments of the Valmeyer Jaycees.

 

            The Valmeyer Jaycees are once again sponsoring a “Light Up the Town” contest.  Any decorated homes in the Village of Valmeyer are eligible to win cash prizes.  Judging will take place the evening of December 27th.

 

            The Valmeyer Music Boosters holding their annual Dinner / Auction / Theater event on Saturday, March 15.  They are looking for items to be donated for the silent and live auction to be held in conjunction with that event.  If you’re looking for an idea – how about going together with other family members and donating a themed-basket for the silent auction?  If you have any questions about auction donations, please contact one of the committee members – Gayle McCarthy, Teena Riechmann or Zoe Ann Schwarze.

 

            The Valmeyer Knights of Columbus are selling Christmas cards for the holiday season.  The cards feature artwork of the winners of last years Christmas Poster contest which was sponsored by the Knights.  The cards come in different versions and sell – 10 cards for $10.  The cards are available at St. Mary’s Church and First Bank.

 

            The Sure Cures Relay for Life team is taking orders for the 2008 Men of Monroe County calendar.  The price is $15.00.  Delivery will be mid-December.  For more information for a great Christmas gift call Kathy at 939-8743 or Jeanette at 935-2443 or 935-2266.

 

            Work has begun on the St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Center.   This building will be available for rentals and will be able to accommodate wedding / anniversary size crowds.  That will be a welcome addition to the Village.

 

            Are you looking for a part-time job ???  The Valmeyer Post Office is looking for someone to work approximately 9-12 hours per week.  If interested or if you have questions, call or stop by the Post Office to fill out an application.  Applications will be accepted until Friday, December 14.

 

Looking for an ENTERTAINMENT BOOK.  They are being sold by the Valmeyer Vikings select Baseball team.  The 2008 book is $25.00, and the GoldC book is $10.00.  For more info - Susan Unterseh at 935-2370 or Eric Seidler at 935-1818.

 

            GUIDANCE NEWS FROM VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL - - - Parents and Students – be sure to check out the Guidance Counselor section on the School’s webpage.  You can go to www.valmeyerk12.org and then click on the “Guidance” link to access important guidance information such as college application deadlines, college representative visits at VHS, FAFSA information, and important scholarship announcements.  There are also links to useful college / career planning and financial aid websites.  You can also always call Becky Karsten, Guidance Counselor at School 935-2100, extension 205, or email at bkarsten@valmeyerk12.org if you need any help or have any questions.

            Next meeting of the VALMEYER OPTIMIST CLUB will be Saturday, January 5 at 8:00 a.m. at the Corner Pub.  Please feel free to attend and learn about the great things being done in the community by the Optimists.

 

            Nomination forms are currently available for members to be inducted into the VALMEYER SCHOOL MUSIC HALL OF FAME in the Spring of 2008.  Those applications can be obtained from Marcia Braswell or Mike Alexander at Valmeyer School.   The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, January 18, 2008.

 

            MARK YOUR CALENDARS – TRIVIA NIGHT – TRIVIA NIGHT – TRIVIA NIGHT to benefit Valmeyer Cub Scout / Boy Scout Troop #345 on Saturday, January 12 at the Valmeyer Junior High School Gym.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the event starting at 7:00 p.m.  Bring your own snacks and drinks – NO ALCOHOL.  Entry fee is $10 per person with 8 members to a team.  Cash prizes to be awarded.  For more information or to enter call Allen may at 935-2611.

 

            MARK YOUR CALENDARS – The Valmeyer School Music Boosters are planning and will be hosting a CELEBRATION OF THE TEACHING CAREER OF MARCIA BRASWELL on Sunday, January 13 at the School from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.  For more information about the event contact Susan Unterseh at 935-2370 or Zoe Ann Schwarze at 935-2403.
