The Valmeyer
National Honor Society will be hosting its ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE in the Junior High gym on Friday, October 13 from
1:00 to 6:00 p.m. All community members
are eligible to donate and are encouraged to attend. Refreshments and food will be provided and
all participants will receive a FREE Red Cross T-Shirt. All donors must present identification prior
to donating. The Red Cross will also
have what is called the “Automatic Double Red Cell” machine available at the
blood drive. This is a high-tech
donation opportunity for donating double red cells for males with a minimum
height of 5’1” and weight of 150 lbs, and for females who are 5’5” in height
and at least 175 lbs. weight. Come check
out the new “Double Cell” machine to see if you qualify. If you don’t, you can still donate the usual
unit of blood that is so desperately needed in this area. The National Honor Society is looking for
donations of food or attendance prizes to give to High School students who
donate blood. If you would like to
donate something to the student population or have any questions regarding
facts about donating blood, please contact Kelly Rowold
at 935-6605 or at 935-2100, extension 122.
Beginning on Monday, October 2, KIDS’ CLUB
will open in the morning for Junior High students. Students
will enter through the south Elementary door and report to Room 510. This will allow them to be in a supervised
area before the official opening of school at 8:00 a.m. KIDS’ CLUB morning rates will apply with cost
as follows: arrival time from 6:00 to
6:30 a.m. - $3.25, arrival time from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. - $2.25 and arrival time
from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. - $1.00. The
required paperwork will be sent home with your child.
The VALMEYER SCHOOL BAND is
looking for donations of used instruments. The band is
growing by leaps and bounds and is in need of instruments for the students. Check your closets and basements to see if you
have any instruments lying around collecting dust. You can donate them to the school for a tax
deductible donation and they will be going to a good cause as well. If you are able to help out with this contact
Mike Alexander, the instrumental music teacher at the School.
A LETTER FROM DONNA MUELLER, K-8 PRINCIPAL AND HATTIE DOYLE, HIGH
SCHOOL PRINCIPAL - -
- - - The Illinois Office of Education has approved Parent-Teacher Conferences
for the Valmeyer School District on Thursday and
Friday, November 2 and 3. Students will
be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2 and conferences will begin at
4:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. on that day.
On Friday, November 3 conferences will be held from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. Students will not be in attendance so that
parents and teachers may meet together to discuss ways in which teachers and
parents can help each other to help the students. Some parents feel that they need to attend
only if there is a problem. We want to
share the positive with you, too, so please make a supreme effort to meet with
your child’s teachers. Our goal is 100%
parent attendance. - - - - - A fifteen minute conference will be scheduled with
each teacher with whom you request a conference in grades PreK-12. If you feel fifteen minutes is not sufficient
time with a teacher, please indicate that on your request form. Conferences will be held in the homeroom of
individual teachers for grades PreK-12.
Report cards for Elementary students (K-5) will be given to the parents
at the conference. Junior High students
will be given their report cards on Friday, October 27th. High school students
report cards will be mailed home on Friday, October 27. - - - - - PreK-5 students should return their
request form to their teacher. All forms
must be returned by Thursday, October 12th. - - - - - Parent / Teacher conferences for
Junior High / High School students will be scheduled by appointment. Parents may contact Becky Karsten,
Guidance Counselor, starting Monday, October 23 to schedule an
appointment. Her phone number is
935-2100, extension 205.
