MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the VHS annual musical production – “SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS” to be presented October 20, 21 and 22 on the Valmeyer High School stage.  Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 20, - - - - - 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 21 - - - - - and 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22.  YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS THIS ROUSING MUSICAL!!!!!

 

St . John United Church of Christ prepared apple butter on Saturday, September 23.  Orders can be placed by calling Pat Garleb at 935-2413, Joyce Rippelmeyer at 935-2452 or Pearl Stechmesser at 939-8866.  Costs will be $7.25 per quart and $4.25 per pint.

 

The Valmeyer National Honor Society will be hosting its ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE in the Junior High gym on Friday, October 13 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.  All community members are eligible to donate and are encouraged to attend.  Refreshments and food will be provided and all participants will receive a FREE Red Cross T-Shirt.  All donors must present identification prior to donating.  The Red Cross will also have what is called the “Automatic Double Red Cell” machine available at the blood drive.  This is a high-tech donation opportunity for donating double red cells for males with a minimum height of 5’1” and weight of 150 lbs, and for females who are 5’5” in height and at least 175 lbs. weight.  Come check out the new “Double Cell” machine to see if you qualify.  If you don’t, you can still donate the usual unit of blood that is so desperately needed in this area.  The National Honor Society is looking for donations of food or attendance prizes to give to High School students who donate blood.  If you would like to donate something to the student population or have any questions regarding facts about donating blood, please contact Kelly Rowold at 935-6605 or at 935-2100, extension 122.

 

Beginning on Monday, October 2, KIDS’ CLUB will open in the morning for Junior High students.  Students will enter through the south Elementary door and report to Room 510.  This will allow them to be in a supervised area before the official opening of school at 8:00 a.m.  KIDS’ CLUB morning rates will apply with cost as follows:  arrival time from 6:00 to 6:30 a.m. - $3.25, arrival time from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. - $2.25 and arrival time from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. - $1.00.  The required paperwork will be sent home with your child.

 

The VALMEYER SCHOOL BAND is looking for donations of used instruments.  The band is growing by leaps and bounds and is in need of instruments for the students.  Check your closets and basements to see if you have any instruments lying around collecting dust.  You can donate them to the school for a tax deductible donation and they will be going to a good cause as well.  If you are able to help out with this contact Mike Alexander, the instrumental music teacher at the School.

 

A LETTER FROM DONNA MUELLER, K-8 PRINCIPAL AND HATTIE DOYLE, HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL - - - - - The Illinois Office of Education has approved Parent-Teacher Conferences for the Valmeyer School District on Thursday and Friday, November 2 and 3.  Students will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2 and conferences will begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. on that day.  On Friday, November 3 conferences will be held from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.  Students will not be in attendance so that parents and teachers may meet together to discuss ways in which teachers and parents can help each other to help the students.  Some parents feel that they need to attend only if there is a problem.  We want to share the positive with you, too, so please make a supreme effort to meet with your child’s teachers.  Our goal is 100% parent attendance. - - - - - A fifteen minute conference will be scheduled with each teacher with whom you request a conference in grades PreK-12.  If you feel fifteen minutes is not sufficient time with a teacher, please indicate that on your request form.  Conferences will be held in the homeroom of individual teachers for grades PreK-12.  Report cards for Elementary students (K-5) will be given to the parents at the conference.  Junior High students will be given their report cards on Friday, October 27th.  High school students report cards will be mailed home on Friday, October 27.  - - - - - PreK-5 students should return their request form to their teacher.  All forms must be returned by Thursday, October 12th.  - - - - - Parent / Teacher conferences for Junior High / High School students will be scheduled by appointment.  Parents may contact Becky Karsten, Guidance Counselor, starting Monday, October 23 to schedule an appointment.  Her phone number is 935-2100, extension 205.

VALMEYER AMERICAN LEGION POST 901 FALL BARBECUE - - - Valmeyer American Legion Post 901 and the Auxiliary will host a Community Barbecue on Sunday, October 15 with serving time from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Price will be $6.00 per plate for adults – under 10 years of age $4.00 and under 6 FREE.  There will be pork steaks, brats and hamburgers, along with sides of home made German potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans and chips.  Desserts will also be available. You will be able to eat inside, outside under the pavilion or take your food home as a carry out.

VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL POST-PROM FUNDRAISER . . . . . HTC is offering a special promotion that will support Valmeyer High School’s Second Annual Post Prom event.  If you sign up for HTC wireless, Valmeyer High School will receive a $25.00 donation from HTC, and you will get a $25.00 credit on your first bill.  You will also receive a free wireless phone (with optional Pirate logo), free activation and one hour of free long distance on your home telephone each month.  Coupons for this offer are available in the High School office.  If you have any questions, call Becky Karsten at 935-2100, extension 205, or Hattie Doyle at extension 204.

 

Plans are currently being made for the Second Annual Valmeyer PTO Christmas Bazaar.  The date for the Bizaar will be Sunday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The fee for setting up a table at this event is $15.  No commissions on sales will be charged.   As soon as rental payments are received, table space will be reserved.  The event will be well-advertised, so expect a good crowd to patronize your booth.  If you are interested in renting table space contact Elaine Beckman at 935-2228.
