A drop box for used clothes, shoes and linens has been placed on the parking lot of St. Mary Church for donations of those items.  Please be generous in helping those less fortunate.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - Valmeyer Community American Red Cross Blood Drive – Monday, June 19 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ.  Refreshments and sandwiches served.  Patients are counting on all of us to give, and each donation can help save up to three lives . . . maybe even someone you know.  While 65 percent of the population is eligible to donate, only five percent do . . . so please give.  Patients are counting on you.

 

LOOKING FOR A GOOD PART-TIME JOB????? . . . . . The Valmeyer Post Office is looking to hire 2 employees.  A Postmaster Relief is needed to work an average of 9.5 hours per week, 6 days per week.  This includes every Saturday morning.  The duties are to work when the Postmaster is off.  The second employee is needed to carry the auxiliary route 2 hours / day, 6 days / week, Monday through Saturday.  The Postmaster is accepting applications until 6/10/2006.  If interested or if you have any questions, please inquire at the Post Office or call 935-2679.

 

VALMEYER PUBLIC LIBRARY - - - - - THE SUMMER SCHEDULE IS AS FOLLOWS:

            Mondays and Thursdays – 3:00 to 8:30 p.m.             Tuesdays – 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

THE PIRATE IS NOW IN PLACE TO GREET EVERYONE AS THEY ARRIVE AT THE LIBRARY.  He is in marvelous full costume with ruffles, hook and eye patch.  There is one problem.  He doesn’t have a name, so a contest is being held to give him a name.  Rick Roever and the Boy Scouts will be presenting survival skills for the Voyage to Book Island – just in case there is a shipwreck.  This program will be June 20 for ages 8-12.  The teen group is helping with summer reading.  The featured volunteers this week are Ashley Heck, Nathan Friz and Chuck Knollmann.  They popped popcorn for the movie-goers.  Don’t forget to register your child for “Voyage to Book Island”, the summer reading program.  Call the Library at 935-2626 or stop by and get a registration blank and informational flyer. The story hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. and take place on June 20, 27 and July 11.  The closing program on July 18, will feature the Elsenpeter Water Show.  PREPARE TO GET WET!!!!!  . . . . . . . . . . . The Valmeyer Public Library District Board of Trustees is having a Book Cover Contest.  Participants are to take their favorite book, or just one that catches their fancy and design a cover for it.  Entry fee is $5.00 and the entrant must provide a copy of the book.  For more information, check at the Library for a registration form.  It’s time to get creative!!! . . . . . . . . . Village sponsored LARGE ITEM PICKUP DAY will be Thursday, June 22.  Such items for pickup can include old appliances, furniture, etc. that are too large to be included in the regular pickup.  All doors, compressors, and electric motors must be removed from appliances.  No construction materials, garbage, landscape waste, grass clippings, leaves, tires or gas tanks will be picked up.  Items must be at the curb and be ready for pickup by 6:00 a.m. on that day.

 

The regular meeting of the Valmeyer Senior Citizens will be Wednesday, June 28 at the Emergency Services Building.  They will have a pot luck meal at Noon followed by their regular meeting.

            Friday, June 30 – Music by Aftershock from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

            Saturday, July 1 – Baseball Tournament beginning at 9:00 a.m.

                                    RCTPA Lawn Mower Pull begins at Noon with signup at 11:00 a.m.  Contact Robin Scheibe

                                                Prize awarded for best float.  As part of the parade, kids are also being invited to

                                                enter this year’s “Bicycle Decorating Contest”.  Children are being encouraged to

                                                decorate their bikes with crepe paper, balloons, streamers – any way you’d like and

                                                ride in the parade.  Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third prizes.  To

The theme for this year’s parade is “A Day at the Beach” with a $100 prize for the best float.  There will also be prizes awarded for Kiddie entries – 1st place of $25, 2nd place of $15 and 3rd place of $10.  For more information contact Parade Chairman Ann James at 935-6061.

 

The Valmeyer Jaycees are looking for cleanup crews for the Valmeyer Midsummer Celebration.  Crews are needed for Sunday night, Monday night and Tuesday night.  Cleanup crews will be paid for this work.  If you are interested in helping with this, contact Margaret Brady or Sharon May.

 

VALMEYER SCHOOL CALENDAR . . . . .

            Tuesday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 19 – Registration for all students in Grades K-8 for the 2-006-2007 School Year – from Noon to 6:00 p.m.

            Wednesday, August 16 – First day of school for the 2006-2007 School Year.
