About 100 people were in attendance for the COMPREHENSIVE PLAN PUBLIC MEETING held on Wednesday, June 7 in the Junior High gym at Valmeyer School.  Moderator Jim Pflasterer, a member of the C.P. committee and former VHS Principal  explained the Comprehensive Plan process as a way to study existing conditions and future trends.  School Superintendent Brian Charron gave an overview of the School situation and explained that with the current development trend, a School expansion may be necessary within the next 10 years.  Maurice Koesterer gave details of the new 275-lot Bluff Meadows development, where home construction has started.  Dennis Knobloch explained the business options available including Downtown development and lots available in the light industrial area of town.  Mayor Howard Heavner gave details of the developing Rock City Business Complex, and the limited development that can take place in the original town area because of flood plain restrictions.  Many good comments and ideas came from those in attendance, and all of these will be added to the review process by the Comprehensive Plan Committee.  Some of those comments included:

1.      The development of park and recreational space – especially for children, and accessible to Village residents.

2.      The effect and demands of the increasing population on the school and Village infrastructure.

3.      Preservation of trees in the original town area, and any potential for development in that area.

4.      Development of trail networks.

5.      Small business and downtown development, along with any available incentives.

6.      Maintenance and upkeep of existing infrastructure and facilities.

7.      Inclusion of vocational education and other options in any school expansion plans.

8.      Emergency and storm warning alert systems.

The Comprehensive Plan Committee will continue to review this information with the ultimate goal being the development of a Plan which can be adopted by the Village Board and used as a guide for future Village development.
