VALMEYER SCHOOL CALENDAR . . . . .
Wednesday, August 16 – First day of
school for the 2006-2007 School Year.
State Bank of
Waterloo has announced plans to build a full-service bank branch in the Village
of Valmeyer in 2006, pending approval from its federal regulator, the Federal
Deposit Insurance Corporation. The bank
predicts considerable future opportunities to provide financial services in
Valmeyer as the community grows. . . . . Bank President and CEO Mark Altadonna
stated, “As a locally-owned community bank, we can better serve the Valmeyer
market because of our knowledge of the area, our existing customer
relationships there, and our local management.” . . . . . The bank intends to
build a 3,000 square foot full-service branch with new account services, a
drive-up facility, safe deposit boxes, lending services, and an ATM. The branch will be located at 259 Knobloch
Boulevard, at the corner of Knobloch and Cedar Bluff Drive. . . . . Altadonna
said, “We look forward to making new friends in the Valmeyer area as well as
adding convenience for our current and growing customer base there. The people of Valmeyer are solid,
hard-working citizens with lots of pride in their community, and the Village
Board has been excellent to work with.
We believe they are anxious for this project to move forward.” . . . . .
State Bank of Waterloo currently has two branches in Waterloo and has about
$116 million in assets under management.
INTERESTING
TIDBITS FROM THE PAGES OF THE 1940 VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL “PIRATE” ANNUAL . . . .
. . . . . . . Freshmen are required to participate in either the “Athenian” or
“Spartan” English clubs. . . . . . . Miss Killebrew took the General Science
class on several interesting and unforgettable field trips, especially the one
to the Quarry. . . . . . . We all remember the day in October when tents were
put up and strange as it seems, donkeys were seen grazing on the campus. Everyone wondered if the circus had come to
town. It was no circus, but provided
almost as much entertainment as a three ring show. It was a donkey softball game for the girls
as well as for the boys. That was an
event which will never be forgotten. . . . . . . In place of the Spartan and
Athenian clubs a new program was organized.
It was called an Amateur Hour, and everyone had an opportunity to show
his talent. . . . . . . In February the Juniors and Seniors sponsored a St.
Valentine’s Dance and Box Social, the proceeds being used to pay for
equipment. The dance was held at the
Royal Theatre. . . . . . . During the second semester one afternoon was made
memorable by Mr. Chalcraft. He took the
physical science class to Parks Air College to see how aviation is taught and
how airplanes are built. Everyone seemed
interested in aviation and enjoyed the visit to this well known institution. .
. . . . . One day in May, Miss Susan Collie came to school, and we began work
on a musical comedy. It took about one
week of hard practices before the play, “Miss Blue Bonnet” was presented to a
large audience which thought it unbeatable considering the time spent in
preparation of the production. . . . . . . The last days of our Junior career
were packed with fun and work. On
Memorial Day we had a festive picnic supper at Fort de Chartres. . . . . . . In
November, the Senior Class got the inspiring idea of publishing the first year
book in the history of the school. This book
is a memory book for the members of the class and the people of the
community. Enthusiasm ran high, the
staff members were appointed and everyone began to work toward its ultimate
success. The Seniors hope they set a
precedent and that “The Annual” will become a yearly tradition for all
yet-to-be Seniors.
