            The National Honor Society is helping out Lydia’s House this Holiday Season by collecting food items such as popcorn (cheese / caramel / etc.), pretzels, dried fruit, candy, etc. and accepting cash donations.  Lydia’s House provides a safe haven for women and children who have been abused.  It provides a safe, confidential and supportive atmosphere for up to 35 families at a time.  The NHS members are asking the community to help out this holiday season by donating a food item or giving a few dollars to help purchase gifts for the kids in the shelter.  If you are interested in helping out the women and children at Lydia’s House, please contact Kelly Rowold at 935-2100, extension 122.  Items and money will be collected from December 1-15 at Valmeyer High School.

 

                        VALMEYER YOUTH SPORTS ASSOCIATION BASKETBALL AND CHEERLEADING.  ALL GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AT VALMEYER SCHOOL.  THERE WILL BE SEPARATE BOYS AND GIRLS TEAMS.  REGISTRATION AND ALL FEES ARE DUE AT SIGN UP.  STUDENTS IN GRADES KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 8TH GRADE WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR SIGNUP.  COST IS $35 FOR THE FIRST CHILD, $30 FOR THE SECOND CHILD, AND $25 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL CHILD.  FEE FOR 5 ON 5 IS $35.  THERE WILL BE A $10 ADDITIONAL FEE FOR SIGNUP AFTER THE POSTED DATES.  FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT VYSA BASKETBALL COORDINATOR TERRY CROSSIN AT 935-6078.

           

            ENJOY THE SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS on Sunday, December 10 at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer beginning at 6:30 p.m.  A free will offering will be accepted.

 

            The Valmeyer American Legion, Auxiliary and family members enjoyed a Potluck Supper on Veterans Day, November 11th.  Fried chicken, roast beef and mashed potatoes were catered by the Corner Pub.  The women of the auxiliary brought vegetables, salads and dessert.  The evening was spent visiting with relatives and friends.  The highlight of the evening was the drawing of a ticket for a lucky winner of the beautiful quilt.  The quilt was won by Tom Wilkens of Waterloo.  The ladies of the Auxiliary will enjoy a Christmas meal at Annbriar on Monday, December 4th at Noon.  Everyone will order off the menu – Dutch treat.  Please call Alberta Wild at 939-7369 if you haven’t already signed up.  There will be NO meeting during the month of January.  The next meeting of the group will be on Monday, February 5, 2007 at the Legion Home at 7:00 p.m.  The members of the Legion Auxiliary would like to extend best wishes to all for a happy holiday season.

 

           

            Need some poinsettias to brighten your home this Christmas – check with the Valmeyer FFA.  They still have some very beautiful flowers in their greenhouse.

 

VALMEYER SCHOOL MUSIC HALL OF FAME - - - It’s time to pick up nomination applications for the induction of members into the Valmeyer School Music Hall of Fame.  Nominees do not need to be VHS graduates, but must be at least 23 years of age.  Nominees can be living or deceased.  Nomination does not guarantee induction.  Applications will be reviewed, and applicants researched by the Valmeyer Music Boosters Hall of Fame Committee.  Nominees for 2007 will be inducted at an awards presentation at the Spring event of the Valmeyer Music Boosters on March 17, 2007.  Nominees will be inducted because of their outstanding abilities in music and / or dance performance, because of their outstanding service as music educators, or because they have made an outstanding contribution to music in the School and/or their community.  Induction may be because of any one or more of the previously listed criteria.  For additional information contact Marcia Braswell or Mike Alexander at Valmeyer School at 935-2100.

 

            ATTEND BREAKFAST WITH SANTA . . . . . Come have breakfast with Santa and enjoy lots of fun activities.  Where – St. John UCC in Valmeyer.  When – December 9th beginning at 9:00 a.m.  The cost is $5.00 per person.  All children attending should be accompanied by an adult.  Pictures will be taken with Santa, and you will be able to purchase (2) 4” x 6” photos for $10.  Activities will include – crafts, stories, decorating cookies, visiting with Santa and playing games.  Please make reservations with Kari Goette by email at kgoette@htc.net or by phone at 314-608-0841.  The last day to make reservations is Friday, December 1st.  Space is limited so please make your reservations as soon as possible.

 

            Help the VALMEYER JAYCEES “Light Up the Town” for the holidays.  The Valmeyer Area Jaycees will be awarding cash prizes to five lucky families who have their homes lighted and decorated for the holidays.  All homes within the Village limits are eligible to win.  Prizes will be awarded the weekend of December 16th and 17th.

 

Remember . . . if you have any MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AROUND YOUR HOUSE NOT BEING USED consider donating them to the Valmeyer School Band.  Contact Band Director Mike Alexander for more information.
