A MESSAGE FROM THE VALMEYER POST 901 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY . . . . . Due to the regular meeting falling on Labor Day, the September meeting of the group will be held on Tuesday, September 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Home.  By now, most members have received a renewal notice for membership dues which are now due.  Senior members are $10.00.  Junior Members will not receive a renewal notice so they are to send their dues of $2.10 to Auxiliary Treasurer, Catherine Reinhold.  Unit 901 met its membership goal last year, so they are hoping to do the same this year.  For the September meeting, members are to bring items to be used to fill boxes for servicemen and women serving our country.  One thing especially preferred is hard candy, plus snacks of any kind, tablets, pens, cards and hygiene products.

Sunday, September 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.–  presented by St. John United Church of Christ and St. Mary Catholic Church.  Lots of good food including Barbecue, hamburgers and hot dogs (eat in or carry out)– beer and soda – games for kids and adults – country store – raffles – cake walk – attendance prizes.  Musical entertainment all day including:

            1:00 p.m. – The Bud Light Brigade               2:00 p.m. – Thunder & Lightning Cloggers

VILLAGE-SPONSORED LARGE ITEM PICKUP - - - Thursday, September 28th – Items for pickup can include old appliances, furniture, etc. that are too large to be included in the regular weekly pickup.  All doors, compressors, and electric motors must be removed from appliances.  No construction materials, garbage, landscape waste, grass clippings, leaves, trees or gas tanks will be picked up.  Items must be placed at the curb and be ready for pickup by 6:00 a.m. on that day.

VALMEYER COMMUNITY-WIDE YARD SALE - - - Saturday, October 14th.

 

2ND ANNUAL MELVIN FISHER HILLS AND HOLLOWS MARATHON . . . . . Saturday, September 23 beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Emergency Services Building in Valmeyer.  This event is dedicated to the memory of Melvin Fisher, who donated countless hours of his time to the Valmeyer Volunteer Fire Department, and the training of its members.  The Course includes a 5K out and back course.  The course starts on flat to rolling County road surfaced with oil and chip through beautiful farm country.  The Half Marathon course continues reaching a two mile gradual down hill, turning into a pancake flat surface along the Mississippi River bottom bluff.  The last t20 miles will be challenging for the weak in spirit as you charge up hill to the finish.  The Half Marathon course is state certified.  There will be Aid Stations at every mile of the Half Marathon, and port-a-potties throughout the route.  Fees for the Half Marathon are $35 through September 14, and $40 after that date.  Fees for the 5K are $20 through September 14, and $25 after that date.  Same day registration closes at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the race.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO ASSIST WITH THIS EVENT!  There will be free T-shirts for volunteers who register prior to September 14.  If you helped last year, and are interested in helping in the same position, register now.  SPONSORS ARE ALSO NEEDED FOR THIS EVENT!  Donations of any amount will be accepted, and will help to make this event a success.  Proceeds from this event will benefit the Valmeyer Active Firemen’s Association and BACKSTOPPERS.  For online race entry, volunteer registration, or sponsor donation, log in at www.hillsandhollows.org, or contact a member of the Valmeyer Fire Department.

 

The Valmeyer Music Boosters will have their ANNUAL CARNIVAL on Friday, September 29.  They are looking for raffle donations and volunteers to work at the Carnival.  For more information contact Marcia Braswell at the School 935-2100.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE 4TH ANNUAL VALMEYER JAYCEES GOLF TOURNAMENT to be held Friday, October 6th at the Acorns Golf Course.  It will be a 18-hole, 4-person scramble with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.  The $60 per person donation includes golf and cart, beverages for 5 hours and a barbecue buffet.  The Jaycees are also looking for hole sponsors at $50 each.  All proceeds from this event will benefit Valmeyer Jaycees community projects i.e. park improvements, holiday decorations, and support of community and educational programs.  Grab three friends and join the fun.  For registration or for more information contact Lyn May at 939-7213.

 

Plans are currently being made for the Second Annual Valmeyer PTO Christmas Bazaar.  The date for the Bizaar will be Sunday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The fee for setting up a table at this event is $15.  No commissions on sales will be charged.   As soon as rental payments are received, table space will be reserved.  The event will be well-advertised, so expect a good crowd to patronize your booth.  If you are interested in renting table space contact Elaine Beckman at 935-2228.
