2ND ANNUAL MELVIN FISHER HILLS AND HOLLOWS MARATHON . . . . . Saturday, September 23 beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Emergency Services Building in Valmeyer.  This event is dedicated to the memory of Melvin Fisher, who donated countless hours of his time to the Valmeyer Volunteer Fire Department, and the training of its members.  The Course includes a 5K out and back course.  The course starts on flat to rolling County road surfaced with oil and chip through beautiful farm country.  The Half Marathon course continues reaching a two mile gradual down hill, turning into a pancake flat surface along the Mississippi River bottom bluff.  The last t20 miles will be challenging for the weak in spirit as you charge up hill to the finish.  The Half Marathon course is state certified.  There will be Aid Stations at every mile of the Half Marathon, and port-a-potties throughout the route.  Fees for the Half Marathon are $35 through September 14, and $40 after that date.  Fees for the 5K are $20 through September 14, and $25 after that date.  Same day registration closes at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the race.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO ASSIST WITH THIS EVENT!  There will be free T-shirts for volunteers who register prior to September 14.  If you helped last year, and are interested in helping in the same position, register now.  SPONSORS ARE ALSO NEEDED FOR THIS EVENT!  Donations of any amount will be accepted, and will help to make this event a success.  Proceeds from this event will benefit the Valmeyer Active Firemen’s Association and BACKSTOPPERS.  For online race entry, volunteer registration, or sponsor donation, log in at www.hillsandhollows.org, or contact a member of the Valmeyer Fire Department.
