THINKING SPRING?????  Visit the Valmeyer FFA Greenhouse Open House on Saturday, April 22 from 9:00 a.m. until Noon at Valmeyer High School.  You will find a vast selection of bedding plants, rose bushes and hanging baskets.  The Greenhouse is also open from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. on school days.  For more information call 935-2100, extension 102.

 

HEE-HAW - - - HEE-HAW - - - HEE-HAW - - - DONKEY BASKETBALL IS BACK.  Wednesday, April 19 at Valmeyer High School beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Players will include alumni, teachers, Junior and Senior students.  Advance tickets are available at Mike’s Service and Valmeyer School for $5, with the price at the door being $7.  Pre-School and younger children will be admitted FREE.  THERE WILL BE FREE DONKEY RIDES FOR CHILDREN 12 AND UNDER DURING INTERMISSION.

 

The FIRST ANNUAL VHS POST-PROM will be held on May 5 following the Junior / Senior Prom at the YMCA in Columbia.  The theme is “Cinco de Mayo”.  The doors open at 11:30 p.m. for registration and the doors will close at 12:30 a.m.  Parents will be notified if their child does not register by 12:30 a.m.  The event will end at 4:00 a.m.  Tickets will be sold for $5.00 (this includes a T-shirt) at School from April 18-25.  A registration form will need to be turned in before a ticket will be sold.  The event will include DJ/Karaoke, swimming, pool obstacle course, bungee run, velcro wall, basketball, volleyball, “Fear Factor” contest, movies, card games, Dance Dance Revolution contest and much, much more!!!!!  There will also be a taco bar, chips, cookies, ice cream and other great snacks.  Attendance prizes will be given out all evening and also at the end of the evening.  Juniors and Seniors will be eligible to win other prizes such as Ipods, TV’s, DVD players, mini-fridge, Cardinals and Rams tickets, etc.  The night will conclude with a “money drop”.  ALL STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THIS FUN AND SAFE EVENT.   Also, parents are being asked to consider making a monetary donation to the Post Prom event (any amount) to help raise the necessary funds.  Several local businesses and community members have already donated toward this event, and any assistance the parents can provide would also be appreciated.  If you would like to make a donation, please send it to Becky Karsten, Guidance Counselor at Valmeyer High School.  Please help to make the FIRST ANNUAL VHS POST PROM PARTY A HUGE SUCCESS FOR THE STUDENTS!!!

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - - - VALMEYER COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE – Monday, April 17 at St. John United Church of Christ from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Refreshments and sandwiches will be served.

 

The Valmeyer Village Office will be CLOSED from April 20-24.

 

QUILT RAFFLE TO BENEFIT LIBRARY . . . . . The newly-formed Valmeyer Library Teen Advisory Board will be selling tickets to raffle a quilt handmade by the Grandmother of one of the members.  The tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.  The ticket sale kickoff will be at the Book Fair on April 3 and tickets will be sold through April 19th.  The winner will be drawn on April 20.  The money raised will go to support this new group which is made up of teens interested in making the Valmeyer Library more teen friendly.  They will work to build the teen book and music selections and try to create an area for the teens to call their own in the Library.  The ultimate goal of this group is to keep the teens interested in reading during their busy “teen” years.  For more information call the Library at 935-2626 or stop by the Book Fair being held April 3rd through April 7th.

 

VALMEYER COMMUNITY YARD SALE – Saturday, April 29.  From 8:00 a.m. until ?????  All Valmeyer residents are invited and encouraged to participate in this event.  It’s the perfect time to “CLEAR THE CLUTTER”.  If you are planning to participate please contact Laurie at Village Hall so your name can be added to the list of sellers for that day.  That list will be made available to Yard Sale shoppers on the 29th.

 

VALMEYER KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION - - - The Valmeyer School District will hold its annual Kindergarten Registration on Thursday, April 20th from Noon to 6:00 p.m.  Please call 935-2100 for an appointment.  All students who are entering Kindergarten in the fall MUST have an appointment to be registered.  Children must be at least 5 years old by September 1, 2006, to legally enter Kindergarten this August.  Please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate and a copy of your child’s social security card.  These copies will be kept in your child’s permanent record - - - PLEASE BRING COPIES ONLY, NOT ORIGINALS.  Remember – appointments are required for the Kindergarten Registration.  Please call the Unit Office at 935-2100 to schedule your appointment by Thursday, April 13th.

FREE TETANUS INJECTIONS – AT ST. JOHN UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST – Sunday, May 7th at 10:30 a.m.  FREE after a $10 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT.  Pay $10.00 to reserve your dose.  Upon receiving your injection you will receive your $10.00 deposit back.  Sign up today as there are only a limited number of injections available.  To reserve your dose or for additional information call Carol Nash at 935-2718 or Susan Rosse at 939-1800. 

 

VALMEYER ALUMNI BANQUET TICKETS ON SALE NOW!!! - - - Announcing the Annual Valmeyer Alumni Association Banquet – Saturday, May 13 – Dinner at 5:30 in the Valmeyer School Cafeteria – Dance at the Emergency Services Building to follow.  Music will be rock to country performed by your fellow alumni, with music from 8:00 p.m. to Midnight.  Cost is $12 for dinner only, $5 for dance only and $15 for both.  Tickets are available  at Mike’s Convenience, Valmeyer Village Hall and First Bank in Valmeyer.

 

LOOKING FOR MUSICIANS . . . . . . . The VHS Alumni Committee is searching for any alumnus who would like to perform with this year’s band at the Annual Alumni Dance on May 13th.  Any interested people should contact Scott Roever at csroev@htc.net or 935-2332 if they would like to perform a song with the “house” band.  While the dance this year will have a band of VHS alumnus performing your favorite tunes, they are inviting any other alumnus to join them for a song of your choosing (as long as the band can learn it in time).  Songs can be from any era or style.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the 1ST ANNUAL VALMEYER OPTIMIST CLUB ROAD RALLY – May 20.  Registration is from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at Mike’s Convenience Store.  The duration of the rally will be approximately 4 hours with the final destination at a local restaurant.  The fee is $15 per person / 4 people per vehicle.  For more information contact Scott Roever at 935-2332.
