SCHOOL NEWS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! – Check out the new Junior High Homework Hotline.  All you need to do is dial the School at 935-2100, extension 302 for 6th and 7th grades, or extension 303 for the 8th grade.

 

VALMEYER JAYCEES ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – Friday, September 9 at the Acorns Golf Course.  There will be a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.  This will be a 18-hole, 4-person scramble.  Entry fee is $60 per person which includes golf and cart, beverages for 5 hours, and a barbecue buffet.  Hole sponsorships are available for $50.  All proceeds from this event benefit Valmeyer Jaycees community projects.  For more information or for registration details contact Lyn May at 939-7213.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE FALL CHURCH PICNIC – Sunday, September 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. sponsored by St. John United Church of Christ and St. Mary Catholic Church in Valmeyer.  Food will include barbecue pork steaks, cutlets and brats, hamburgers and hot dogs, plus all the trimmings.  There will be plenty of cold refreshments.  Kids and adults can enjoy games all day and there will be a country store and plenty of attendance prizes.  Entertainment throughout the day will include:

REGISTER NOW - - - - - REGISTER NOW - - - - - REGISTER NOW - - - - - REGISTER NOW - - - - - MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE first annual “MELVIN J. FISHER HILLS AND HOLLOWS Half Marathon and 5K Run” to be held on September 24, 2005.  REGISTRATION FORMS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AT THE VILLAGE OFFICE.  EVERYBODY GET REGISTERED NOW!!!!!  A COMPLIMENTARY T-SHIRT AND MEDAL WILL BE GIVEN TO ALL PRE-REGISTERED ENTRANTS AND VOLUNTEERS.  The event (Half Marathon and 5K Run / Walk) will begin at the Valmeyer Emergency Services Building at 8:00 a.m. on September 24.  The course being used is the only certified Half Marathon course in Southern Illinois.  No dogs, rollerblades, bikes, skates or skateboards will be allowed on the course during this event.  All Pre-Registered participants and volunteers will receive a complementary t-shirt and medal.  Race results and awards will be given at a ceremony at the Firehouse beginning at 11:00 a.m.  A Fire Department Traveling Trophy will be awarded to the first Fire Department member who completes the Half Marathon Course and the first to complete the 5K Run / Walk.  This event is being held in memory of Melvin Fisher, who lost his battle with cancer on September 1, 2004.  For thirty Melvin volunteered his time and efforts with many local organizations, but was probably most involved with the Valmeyer Fire Department and Valmeyer Active Firemen’s Association.  Through his efforts and encouragement, many firemen in the Valmeyer Department have completed or are enrolled in more advanced fire-fighting training than ever in the past.  The September planned event is dedicated to his memory.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Valmeyer Active Firemen’s Association to continue training efforts for the department.  Sponsors – at all levels - are being sought to help make this event a success.  If you are interested in being a sponsor for the marathon, please contact Valmeyer Fire Dept. sponsorship coordinator Katie Schwarze at 314-575-0830.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - - - APPLEBEE’S IN WATERLOO IS HOSTING A DINE TO DONATE.  Applebee's will donate 10% of their sales on September 8 to the Melvin J. Fisher Hills and Hollows event.  Stop by Applebee's – dine in or drive thru between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on September 8 to help raise funds for this worthwhile event.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the VALMEYER COMMUNITY YARD SALE – Saturday, October 8th from 8:00 a.m. until ???????  All those interested in participating should contact Laurie at Village Hall to have your name included on a map / listing to be made available to garage sale shoppers that day.
