THE VALMEYER PUBLIC LIBRARY Book Clubs are in “the swing”.  Librarian, Portia Stueve, thinks that maybe there is a misunderstanding about meeting times.  They don’t meet every week – just once a month.  So you don’t have to read a book a week.  Does that make a difference?  Come join the group – Monday or Thursday night.  Actually, the groups are finding that they have more time to read than they thought. . . after all, there are so many books.  The toughest part has been the choosing.  Bet you can’t read just one.  Please call 935-2626 for more info or to sign up for the discussion groups.

BOOK FAIR AT VALMEYER LIBRARY – March 30 to April 7.  There will be a Scholastic Fair of new books for the youngsters.  There will also be a used book fair for all ages with mainly adult books.  Between now and that date, the Library will be accepting donations of books.  Watch the School / Library website for updates, including which books will be included in the Book Fair Auction.  The hours will be during regular library hours and on Saturday morning, April 2 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.  For more info contact the Library at 935-2626.

The library is also holding a raffle to be drawn on April 7.  Items include a handmade “book lamp”, homemade crochet rugs, a reader’s basket, a homemade chocolate lover’s basket with the chocolate so fresh it will not be in the basket until April 7, a school house memories basket, a pillow, and a made-to-order decorated cake.  Raffle tickets are $1.00 or 6 for $5.00 and can be purchased at the Library.

Library hours are Monday and Thursday – 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The Library will be closed Friday, March 25 and Monday, March 28 for Spring Break.

The Library is SELLING WOODEN PLAQUES DEPICTING THE ORIGINAL VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL in full color.  The plaques are 4 inches by 8 inches and sell for $15.00.  Examples of the plaques are available around town.  Stop by the Library to buy one, or call the Library at 935-2626 to reserve one.

BLUFFSIDE EDUCATION FOUNDATION - - - The Bluffside Education Foundation was formed to support efforts that compliment, enhance and enrich educational programs and opportunities in the Valmeyer School District.  Since its inception the Foundation has awarded over $40,000 to K-12 educational programs that the district could not support through their regular budget.  Individuals can make a valuable contribution to the future of our community’s children by making a tax deductible gift now or by considering including the Foundation in your will.  Your financial assistance will allow the Foundation to continue to grow and help meet the educational challenges of the future.  Call the School office for details at 935-2100.

The Valmeyer Police have recovered a 20” mountain bike from near the school.  If you can identify it, please contact the Valmeyer Police Department for recovery.

The Valmeyer Police Department is asking for your cooperation in removing your portable basketball stands from the street and positioning them behind the sidewalk when not in use.  Warmer weather promotes more outside activities, and we ask you to share the streets and sidewalks.
