LATE BREAKING NEWS – Adam Hoffmann, VHS Art student took first place / best of show at the Bi-County (Monroe – Randolph) Art Show held Sunday at the Red Bud SWIC campus.  Hoffmann’s entry was a charcoal drawing of a father holding a newborn entitled “In His Hands”.  Along with the award, Adam received a gift certificate for art supplies.

 

THIS WEEK AT SCHOOL . . . . .

                Tuesday, March 1 – Junior High Volleyball vs. Freeburg at HOME – 5:00 p.m.

                Thursday, March 3 – Junior High Volleyball at Smithton – 5:00 p.m.

                Saturday, March 5 – High School Solo and Ensemble Contest at Freeburg High School.

                Monday, March 7 – Pulaski Day – NO SCHOOL.

 

THE VALMEYER PUBLIC LIBRARY is forming book discussion groups.  One group will meet on Monday nights and another on Thursday nights.  Please call 935-2626 for more information or to sign up for the discussion groups.

 

St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer will be sponsoring a TRIVIA NIGHT on March 12th at 7:00 p.m. at the Church.  Proceeds will benefit the Sunday School Department.  For more information or to reserve your table, contact Susan Rosse at 939-1800.  Gather a group of friends and join the fun.

 

The Library is SELLING WOODEN PLAQUES DEPICTING THE ORIGINAL VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL in full color.  The plaques are 4 inches by 8 inches and sell for $15.00.  Examples of the plaques are available around town.  Stop by the Library to buy one, or call the Library at 935-2626 to reserve one.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS . . . The St. John United Church of Christ – Valmeyer Cabinet of Ministry is organizing a community CPR training event.  This will be held on March 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Church building.  The event will include CPR training to revive infants through adults, with each participant having their own practice mannequin.  The cost of the training is $30 per person, however, the first 30 people to register and pay a $3 registration fee will have the remaining $27 of the training cost covered by a grant from the Deaconess Foundation.  To register, you may sign up at the Church or phone Carol Nash at 935-2718.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS . . . The Annual Valmeyer Music Boosters Dinner – Theater – Auction event on Saturday, March 19, 2005. . . . . JUKEBOX SATURDAY NIGHT - - - Lost in the 50’s.  The Valmeyer Music Boosters are looking for donations of auction items for this event.  If you would be willing to donate an auction item please contact Susan Unterseh at 935-2370 or Zoe Ann Schwarze at 935-2403.  There is also a need for baskets that can be used for collections of auction items.  If you have baskets to donate contact Susan, Zoe Ann or Mrs. Braswell at School.

 

The Library is trying to build an archive of VHS Pirate Yearbooks.  If you or someone you know would like to donate your collection of annuals, the Library would like to put them on file.  (No one will pay attention to the poems written by your High School sweetheart).  There is no complete public collection of these books anywhere.  Call the Library at 935-2626 for more information.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE FIRST ANNUAL VALMEYER OPTIMIST HOUSE TOUR . . . . . Sunday, April 3, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Several homes have already been scheduled for this tour, and the Optimists are looking for several more interested homeowners.  Advanced tickets are available by calling Jennifer Seidler at 935-1818 or Toni Whipple at 935-0555.  Advanced tickets are $8.00.  Tickets will be sold the day of the house tour at the Emergency Services Building for $10 each.  If you are interested in having your home on the house tour contact Jennifer Seidler at 935-1818.
