AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE – Monday, August 15 at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer – from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Give the gift of life and find out how great it feels to be a hero.  All donors will receive a complimentary coupon for a Dairy Queen Blizzard.  Refreshments and sandwiches will be served.

 

The Village of Valmeyer is looking for a SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD to work before and after School each day.  If you are interested in such a position, please contact Laurie at Village Hall.

 

OPENING SCHEDULE FOR VALMEYER SCHOOL – A teacher’s workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 17.  The first day of school for students is Thursday, August 18.  Classes will be in session from 8:17 a.m. to 10:41 a.m. on that day.  Thereafter classes will run from 8:17 a.m. to 3:13 p.m. each day.  Kindergarten students will attend all day every day.  Pre-Kindergarten students will be notified about their schedule by the coordinator, Mrs. Riechmann.  Bus routes will be similar to last year and will be changed as necessary.  If you have any bus questions contact Vince Siburt.  Vince will be available for calls beginning Monday, August 8 at 935-2283. . . . . . . . . . . On the first day of school, all students will receive handbooks that will provide more complete information regarding policies and procedures of the school . . . . . . . . . . . Senior pictures will be taken on Tuesday, August 17.  Pictures for the yearbook and student ID cards will be taken on Thursday, August 23 for Grades K-12.  Retakes and Pre-K pictures are tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 17.  Other questions??? - -call the school office at 935-2100.

 

PRE-KINDERGARTEN SCREENING - - - August 15, 16 and 18.  This screening is for children who are 3 years old before September 1 or in their year before Kindergarten.  Call 935-2100, extension 502 to make an appointment.  Parents who have children younger than 3 who would like information on their child’s development can call Mary McCarthy at 935-2100, extension 5120.

 

Make plans to participate in the 6th ANNUAL VALMEYER OPTIMISTS GLOW BALL TOURNAMENT to be held on August 19 at the Acorns.  This is a 4-person scramble that begins with registration at 7:30 and tee-off at 8:30 p.m.  Cost to participate is $45 per player with a glow ball furnished.  There will be an optional skins game for $20.  Cash prizes will be paid to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.  To reserve a spot call Rick Crossin at 935-2729.  All proceeds from this event will benefit the programs of the Valmeyer Optimist Club.

 

VISIT STUCKMEYER’S PRODUCE STAND on the parking lot of Mike’s Convenience Store.  It is open on Wednesday evenings from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday mornings from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE first annual “MELVIN J. FISHER HILLS AND HOLLOWS Half Marathon and 5K Run” to be held on September 24, 2005.  REGISTRATION FORMS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AT THE VILLAGE OFFICE.  EVERYBODY GET REGISTERED NOW!!!!!  A COMPLIMENTARY T-SHIRT AND MEDAL WILL BE GIVEN TO ALL PRE-REGISTERED ENTRANTS AND VOLUNTEERS.  The event (Half Marathon and 5K Run / Walk) will begin at the Valmeyer Emergency Services Building at 8:00 a.m. on September 24.  The course being used is the only certified Half Marathon course in Southern Illinois.  No dogs, rollerblades, bikes, skates or skateboards will be allowed on the course during this event.  All Pre-Registered participants and volunteers will receive a complementary t-shirt and medal.  Race results and awards will be given at a ceremony at the Firehouse beginning at 11:00 a.m.  A Fire Department Traveling Trophy will be awarded to the first Fire Department member who completes the Half Marathon Course and the first to complete the 5K Run / Walk.  This event is being held in memory of Melvin Fisher, who lost his battle with cancer on September 1, 2004.  For thirty Melvin volunteered his time and efforts with many local organizations, but was probably most involved with the Valmeyer Fire Department and Valmeyer Active Firemen’s Association.  Through his efforts and encouragement, many firemen in the Valmeyer Department have completed or are enrolled in more advanced fire-fighting training than ever in the past.  The September planned event is dedicated to his memory.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Valmeyer Active Firemen’s Association to continue training efforts for the department.  Sponsors – at all levels - are being sought to help make this event a success.  If you are interested in being a sponsor for the marathon, please contact Valmeyer Fire Dept. sponsorship coordinator Katie Schwarze at 314-575-0830.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - - - APPLEBEE’S IN WATERLOO IS HOSTING A DINE TO DONATE.  Applebee's will donate 10% of their sales on September 8 to the Melvin J. Fisher Hills and Hollows event.  Stop by Applebee's – dine in or drive thru between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on September 8 to help raise funds for this worthwhile event.
