The Village refuse collector picks up RECYCLE ITEMS on the first and third Thursday of each month. This month the dates are Thursday, October 7, and Thursday, October 21. PLEASE REMEMBER - - - THE ONLY PLASTIC PRODUCTS THAT CAN BE INCLUDED ARE TYPE #1 AND TYPE #2. PLEASE PUT YOUR RECYCLE ITEMS AT THE CURB ALONG WITH YOUR REGULAR TRASH, BUT PLEASE SOMEHOW LABEL THE RECYCLE ITEMS. THANKS.

It’s APPLE BUTTER TIME at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer. They cooked lots of the delicious spread on Saturday, September 25. There is still some left and to place your orders call Pat Garleb at 935-2413. Prices are $6.50 per quart and $3.75 per pint.

Thursday, October 7 – Junior High / High School Fall Concert in the High School

Gym – beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, October 8 – Teacher Institute – No School.

Friday, October 8 – Valmeyer Community Blood Drive – High School Gym 2-7 p.m.

Friday, October 8 – High School Volleyball at Alton Marquette – 6:00 p.m.

Monday, October 11 – Columbus Day – NO SCHOOL.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - Members of the Valmeyer High School Music Department are rehearsing for their fall musical – “THE WIZARD OF OZ”. This annual event will be on the stage at VHS on Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m. Please note the change in weekend from past years, and mark this date on your calendar so you don’t miss a great performance!!!

COMING THIS WEEK - - - - - - - - - MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - The Valmeyer National Honor Society is once again hosting the School / Community blood drive in the High School gym on Friday, October 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All community members are eligible to donate. Those who donated at the last community drive are able to donate as well. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Refreshments and food will be served. All donors must present identification prior to donating. School is not in session that day, but all students 16 years of age or older are encouraged to attend. There will be many raffle prizes and food for all students who donate. Donors who are 16 years of age need a parent permission form signed the day of the drive. If you have any questions, contact Becky Karsten, NHS sponsor at the School.

COMING THIS WEEK - - - - - - - - - MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR COMMUNITY YARD SALE DAY – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9^TH – If you are interested in participating, please contact Village Hall, as a Community Yard Sale listing will be available in town on that day.

Members of Valmeyer American Legion Post 901 and Auxiliary will be hosting a CHILI SUPPER ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Valmeyer American Legion Hall, 618 South Meyer Avenue in Valmeyer. The menu will include chili, hot dogs, dessert and beverage. The cost will be $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children ages 6-12, and FREE for kids under 6. Don’t miss the food and fellowship of this event.

BARBECUE - - - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23 - - - at the Waterloo Rural King Parking Lot - - - sponsored by the Valmeyer Boosters of School Sports - - - serving carryouts from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. - - - proceeds to benefit all sports activities at Valmeyer School.
