FFA POINSETTIA OPEN HOUSE – Sunday, December 5 at the VHS FFA Greenhouse.  10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Poinsettias are available in red, pink, white and variegated.  The greenhouse is also open from 12:15 to 12:45 and 2:30 to 3:30 each school day.  For more information, contact the Ag Department at 935-2100, extension 102.

 

VALMEYER FFA ALUMNI FARM TOY SHOW – Sunday, December 5 – at Valmeyer High School from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  There will also be a limited amount of other toys, dolls, etc.  Admission for all from tot to adult is $1.

 

ENJOY THE SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS – Sunday, December 12 at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer beginning at 6:30 p.m.  A free will offering will be accepted.

 

VISIT WITH SANTA AT THE FIREHOUSE – Sunday, December 12 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Get your picture taken with Santa, bring your Christmas wish list, enjoy some cookies and punch.  Sponsored by the Valmeyer Optimist Club.

 

SANTA IS MAKING APPOINTMENTS FOR PERSONAL PHONE CALLS this holiday season and his is working on a list of good boys and girls to receive letters from him.  There is a $5 processing fee for the call or letter.  Proceeds from this program will benefit the Valmeyer Optimist Club.  If you would like someone special to get a phone call or letter from Santa, please call Jennifer Seidler at 935-1818 by December 8th.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS – VALMEYER COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE – Monday, December 6 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer.  Each presenting donor will receive a complimentary coupon for a Yankee Candle holiday scented votive.  Refreshments and sandwiches will be served.  Fewer people donate blood during the holidays, but the need for blood continues.  Take the time to give the greatest gift of all this holiday season – GIVE BLOOD.

 

The Pink Ladies Relay for Life team is once again selling CHRISTMAS COOKIE TINS.  Tins are $5 each with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.  Orders for homemade goodies will be taken until December 10th.  To place orders call Mary McCarthy at 935-1195.

 

THE VHS NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY WILL BE COLLECTING ITEMS TO SEND TO THE TROOPS STATIONED IN THE MIDDLE EAST.  They will hold a collection drive from November 17 to December 8 and boxes will be placed throughout the school and at several community locations.  The cost for postage to ship the items will be covered by the sale of “Support Our Troops” window clings and magnets.  The cost is $5.00 each.  These are being sold by Violette Nast and Kelly Meyer, who both have family members stationed overseas.  The collected items will be distributed to several soldiers stationed in the Middle East.  If anyone would like to purchase a magnet / cling, or if any community member has a family member in the service and would like a package sent to them, please contact Becky Karsten at 935-2100, extension 126 with the information.  Anyone wanting to make a monetary donation to help defray the postage costs can send it to the National Honor Society at 300 South Cedar Bluff Drive, Valmeyer, Illinois.  A sampling of the types of items that could be included are:

The Valmeyer Music Department is selling Gooseberry Patch cookbooks and other items.  All music students in grades 5-12 will be selling these items through December 9th.  These items will make great Christmas gifts and they will be delivered to you before Christmas.

 

The Valmeyer Optimist Club and the Valmeyer Music Boosters are co-sponsoring a Student Talent Showcase on Friday, January 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Gym.  Any student in grades 1 – 12 interested in performing a comedy act, music solo or group, dance or other form of entertainment should pick up an entry form from Mrs. Braswell.  These forms are due by Friday, December 3.

 

Applications are now available for NOMINATION FOR CONSIDERATION FOR YEAR 2005 INDUCTION INTO THE VALMEYER SCHOOL MUSIC HALL OF FAME.  Nominees for induction do not need to be VHS graduates, must be at least 23 years of age, can be living or deceased and should be nominated for their outstanding abilities in music and/or dance, or because of their outstanding service or contributions to the field of music.  Nomination does not guarantee induction, but applications of those not inducted will be held over for future years.  New members of the Music Hall of Fame will be inducted at the Music Boosters Dinner Theater event to be held on Saturday, March 19.  For more information or to pick up an application contact Marcia Braswell or Mike Alexander at School.  Applications are due by January 14, 2005.
