            Tuesday, May 11 – High School Spring Concert in the High School Gym – 7:30 p.m.

            Thursday, May 13 – High School Baseball against Mascoutah at HOME – 4:30 p.m.

            Thursday, May 13 – 5th – 8th Grade Spring Concert in the High School Gym – 7:30 p.m.

            Friday, May 14 – High School Softball against Livingston at HOME – 4:30 p.m.

            Friday, May 14 – High School JV Baseball at Chester – 4:30 p.m.

            Saturday, May 15 – FFA Plant and Fish Sale – 9:00 a.m. until Noon.

            Saturday, May 15 – High School Softball and Baseball at Bunker Hill – 11:00 a.m.

            Sunday, May 16 – High School Sports Banquet in the Cafeteria – 1:00 p.m.

 

The High School Athletic Banquet will be May 16th in the Multipurpose Room at 1:00 p.m.  Tickets are $8 for the meal, come and listen to the guest speaker and coaches.

 

Valmeyer American Legion Post #901 is looking for any World War II veterans that live in the Valmeyer area.  They are also searching for any veterans of past conflicts or of the most recent ones.  The American Legion wants to know all the veterans that are a part of the community.  If you are a veteran please call Jake Kohnz at 935-2311, Jerry Engbring at 935-2759, Roy Riechmann at 935-2325 or Allan Guttmann at 939-3729.

 

RECYCLING DAY - - - Saturday, May 15 - - - Please have your recycle items - - - glass, aluminum, tin cans, newspapers, type 1 and type 2 plastics - - - at the curb by 8:00 a.m. on that day.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS . . . . . The American Red Cross will host a Blood Drive in Valmeyer on Monday, May 17.  This campaign will be at St. John United Church of Christ from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Refreshments and sandwiches will be provided.  An unforeseen illness . . . an unexpected accident . . . a routine medical procedure . . . all may require blood.  In fact, every two seconds someone in this country needs blood . . . that could be a parent, a child or a co-worker.  The Red Cross needs your help.  In Illinois, 16-year olds can donate blood with a signed American Red Cross parental (or legal guardian) consent form.  Please help out and donate blood.

 

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM PLANT REQUEST . . . . . The Valmeyer School Outdoor Classroom is looking for flowers.  Their goal is to make it as maintenance free as possible and yet appear as an old-fashioned prairie / wildflower garden.  They are looking for tough easy-care perennials.  Following is a list of some possible plant ideas. . . . . astilbe, baby’s breath, black-eyed Susan, blanket flower, bleeding heart, butterfly weed, catmint, chamomile, columbine, coral bells, coreopsis, daisies, daylily, delphinium, dianthus, evening primrose, iris, lamb’s ear, lavender, liatris, lily of the valley, oxeye, peony, phlox, pincushion flower, purple coneflower, Russian sage, salvia, sedum, silver king, thyme and yarrow.  If you are interested in dividing any of your bedding plants or would just like to donate some plants, please bring them to school or give Anita Muertz (935-2100, extension 511) a call, and she will pick them up.  They are always grateful for your support.  Please stop by and take a look at the garden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

TRIVIA NIGHT AND SILENT AUCTION to benefit the family of Kent Heise – Saturday, May 15 – Valmeyer School Multi Purpose Room.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m., trivia begins at 7:00 p.m.  To reserve a table for trivia, or to donate items for the silent auction, please contact Robin Spurgeon 935-2476, or Kim Feldker 939-6876.  Admission is $12 per person, 8 people per table.  Bring your own food, snacks and soda.  No alcoholic beverages permitted.  Sponsored by POWER HOUSE CHEER.

 

A MESSAGE FROM STEVEN LAUR, VALMEYER C.U.S.D.#3 SUPERINTENDENT . . . .

If School is not cancelled due to any unforeseen occurrences, the following schedule will be followed:      Monday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 25 – will be regular school days.  Semester

                        exams will be administered on these days.

                        Wednesday, May 26 – Teachers Workshop – Students will not be in attendance.

                        Thursday, May 27 – Last Day of School – Dismissal at 9:51 a.m.

 

The students at Valmeyer School are again producing the VFiles Newsletter.  It will be published on the school website ONLY so look for it there.  The students are working on this project by conducting interviews and writing the articles so check out their work.  CHECK OUT THE V-FILES ON THE SCHOOL WEBSITE (SEE THE ADDRESS BELOW).

 

The VHS Yearbook staff will be taking orders for the 2004 VHS yearbook on - - - - - - Wednesday, May 12.  Books will cost $40 each.  For further info contact Phyllis Chilovich, Yearbook Advisor at Valmeyer High School.
