A friend is currently in need of our thoughts and prayers.  Melvin Fisher is suffering from a serious physical ailment at this time and is need of our support.  The Valmeyer Jaycees have announced that the 2004 Valmeyer Midsummer Celebration Fireworks display will be dedicated to Melvin.  Please remember him in this time of need and wish him well.

A MESSAGE FROM THE VALMEYER PUBLIC LIBRARY . . . Your Library and the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness are reminding you to think before you “just fool around” with fireworks.  They are gunpowder explosives and are JUST PLAIN DANGEROUS!  Don’t celebrate with fireworks.  Fireworks hurt.  The children are “Celebrating Cool Summer Reading.”  Adults can do the same.  What better way to keep cool than with a cold drink, a shade tree, and a good book.  We have new books by Stephen King, Janet Evanovich, Danielle Steel, Dean Koontz and many more.  Come on in.  It’s cool inside the Library.  Remember our hours.  Monday and Thursday from 3:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  For more information call the phone number at the Library . . .  935-2626.

PLEASE NOTE – CHANGE OF DATE FOR VALMEYER AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING – The regular monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 6 instead of Monday.  This meeting will include installation of officers, so your attendance would be appreciated.

A MESSAGE FROM THE VALMEYER POST OFFICE . . . . . The Valmeyer Post Office has a new face.  I am temporarily assigned as a supervisor in the O’Fallon, Illinois Post Office for the new three months.  Kim Bickett will serve as OIC until I come back.  Please welcome her.  I thank you for all your support while I was here and look forward to returning in October . . . Postmaster Alice.

The Valmeyer Post Office is looking for a contract cleaner to work 3 hours per week at $7.50 per hour.  If interested contact Kim, OIC, at the Post Office or call her at 935-2679.
