Valmeyer Community Unit School District #3 will be accepting sealed bids for the mowing of the School grounds during the months of March, April, May, September, October and November.  Interested mowing contractors should stop by the unit office to pick up a bid packet and to receive instructions as to what will be mowed.  Bids will be opened at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2004 at the unit office.

            Monday, February 16 – PRESIDENTS’ DAY – NO SCHOOL.

 

The Valmeyer High School National Honor Society will be hosting its annual Community Blood Drive in the High School gym on Friday, February 13, 2004 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.  All community members are eligible to donate and are encouraged to attend.  Refreshments and food will be served.   The National Honor Society is also looking for donations of food or attendance prizes to give to high school students present to donate blood.  If you would like to make a donation, please contact NHS sponsor, Becky Karsten at 939-5173.

 

The Valmeyer Music Boosters are IN NEED OF NEW OR SLIGHTLY USED BASKETS for displaying silent auction items at the 2004 fund raising Dinner Theater.  If you have any baskets that you would like to donate contact Susan Unterseh at 935-2370 or Marcia Braswell at School.

 

The Valmeyer High School Yearbook Staff will be selling AVON products as a fundraiser in order to help pay off their 2003 yearbook.  All staff members will soon be selling AVON products over several campaigns.  Also, there are plenty of 1996-2003 yearbooks available for sale in the business department at School.  If you are interested in helping the Yearbook Staff and would like to purchase AVON products or a school annual, please contact Ms. Chilovich, VHS Yearbook sponsor at School at 935-2100, extension 128 or at home at 935-2181.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS . . . for the Valmeyer Music Boosters ANNUAL FISH FRY AND MUSIC MARATHON . . . Friday, February 20 in the Valmeyer School Multi-Purpose Room from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Carryouts will be available at 3:30 p.m.  Cod sandwiches and plates will be available as well as cod by the pound.  Plates include 2 sides and dessert.  Drinks will also be available.  Listen to the Valmeyer High School students perform their music solos and ensemble selections.  All proceeds of this event benefit the Valmeyer High School Music Dept.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS . . . . . ASH WEDNESDAY FISH FRY AT ST. JOHN UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST . . . Wednesday, February 25 with serving from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Serving Cod and Talapia plates and sandwiches.  Plates include Home-made potato salad, slaw and desserts.  You can dine in or carry out your food.  Don’t miss this opportunity to sample some great food.  The church will also be sponsoring additional Friday Lenten fish fries, so watch for future announcements.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS . . . . . The Village will be sponsoring a LARGE ITEM PICKUP DAY ON Thursday, February 26th.  Items that can be included for pickup are those that are normally not accepted for the weekly collection.  Some examples are appliances, furniture, etc.  All doors, compressors and electrical motors must be removed from appliances.  No construction materials, garbage, landscape waste, grass clippings, leaves, tires or gas tanks will be picked up.  Items must be placed at the curb and be ready for pickup by 6:00 a.m. on that day.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND RESERVE YOUR TICKETS . . . . . The Valmeyer School Music Boosters will present “MEET ME AT THE FAIR” their annual Dinner / Theater / Auction on Saturday, March 27 at the School Multi-Purpose Room.  The evening will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a silent auction with lots of great items as always.  The dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and will include Greek Salad with dinner rolls, CHOICE OF ENTRÉE – either Baked Herb Chicken Breast or Lemon Pepper Crusted Pork Loin, Pasta alla Puttanesca, Honey Glazed Carrots with Sugar Snap Peas, CHOICE OF DESSERT – either Double Chocolate Cake with Whipped Cream or Vanilla Ice Cream with Strawberry Glaze Sauce.  The silent auction will continue through the dinner.  A costume contest with participation optional will follow dinner, and entrants are encouraged to wear St. Louis World’s Fair-era themed clothing.  Prizes will be awarded to winning entries.  New members of the Valmeyer School Music Hall of Fame will be inducted, and a Live Auction featuring some great items will follow.  Entertainment for the evening will be a community theater production of Shubert Fendrich’s musical drama “In St. Louis, At the Fair”.  Many talented members of the community will be showcasing their talents for this show, so you won’t want to miss it.  Tickets are $18.00 each and are available at First Bank in Valmeyer, Mike’s Convenience, Valmeyer Village Hall, First National Bank of Waterloo or at Valmeyer School.  Ticket purchase deadline is Wednesday, March 10th.  All proceeds from this event benefit the Valmeyer School Music Program.  Come and help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exhibition - - - the St. Louis World’s Fair.

 

It’s not too early to start thinking about the ALWAYS ANNUAL – ALWAYS A GOOD TIME – VALMEYER ALUMNI BANQUET AND DANCE.  The date for the event this year is Saturday, May 8, 2004 with dinner at the School at 5:30 p.m. and a dance to follow at the Firehouse at 8:00 p.m. with music by Route 3.  The dance will include music for the “older” alumni early in the evening, moving to louder and faster music for the “youngies” later on.  The classes of 1954 and 1979 will be receiving special honors at the banquet.  Reserve the date now, and watch for future announcements about the availability of tickets.  If you have any questions, contact Brad Rippelmeyer, President of the Valmeyer Alumni Association.
