JOIN VALMEYER CUB SCOUT PACK 345 . . . . . If you could give your boy the greatest gift of all, what would it be?????  It wouldn’t be money or anything money can buy.  Whether you are rich or poor, the greatest gift is within your power because that gift is helping a boy become a person with a good feeling about himself and a genuine concern for others.  Cub Scouting can help you provide this gift.  We are recruiting for the 2004-2005 Cub Scout program in Valmeyer School’s elementary lobby on Thursday, April 22nd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  We will provide information, answer any questions you might have, and of course sign your son up for the program.  If you need additional information contact Cubmaster Todd Hildreth at 935-0500.

A MESSAGE FROM VALMEYER C.U.S.D.#3 – RUTH SCHNEIDER, Pre-K-8 PRINCIPAL . . . Students in grades K-8 will be taking standardized tests the month of April.  The Kindergarten will take the Metropolitan Readiness Test.  The Iowa Test of Basic Skills will be given April 19 – 30 for grades 1-8.  These achievement tests are important indicators of your child’s progress.  The results are placed in the student’s permanent file and may be used as one source of data to determine promotion or retention.  We want children to have the opportunity to do their best on the tests.  You can help by ensuring that your child gets plenty of sleep and has a good breakfast.  Also, while encouragement is always helpful, extreme pressure to perform well can actually cause a child to become tense and nervous.  These feelings can cause a child to freeze and do poorly when tested.  Thus, positive statements of encouragement and support are most helpful from parents.  Together, we are partners in the education of your child.  Your help and support are always appreciated.

DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR THE St. John United Church of Christ of Valmeyer 4-person scramble Golf Tournament to be held Saturday, May 1 at the Acorns Golf Links.  There will be a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start with registration and lunch at noon.  The fee is $65 per person or $260 per team.  There will be cash prizes, contests, along with plenty of food and fun.  For those who do not wish to play there are other opportunities for sponsorship including sponsoring a team for $260, being a hole sponsor for $100, being a Platinum Donor for $75, being a Gold Donor for $50, or being a Silver Donor for $25.  For additional information contact Bruce Whipple at 935-0555, Brad Rippelmeyer at 281-4242 or Dan McCarthy at 593-6971.

It’s not too early to start thinking about the ALWAYS ANNUAL – ALWAYS A GOOD TIME – VALMEYER ALUMNI BANQUET AND DANCE.  The date for the event this year is Saturday, May 8, 2004 with dinner at the School at 5:30 p.m. and a dance to follow at the Firehouse at 8:00 p.m. with music by Route 3.  The dance will include music for the “older” alumni early in the evening, moving to louder and faster music for the “youngies” later on.  The classes of 1954 and 1979 will be receiving special honors at the banquet.  Reserve the date now, and watch for future announcements about the availability of tickets.  If you have any questions, contact Brad Rippelmeyer, President of the Valmeyer Alumni Association.
