Most of
the local television and radio stations, along with the newspapers are planning
or have already done stories commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the Flood of 1993. This week, from June 23-27, St. Louis radio station KWMU 90.7 FM
will air their five-part series on the flood.
The in-depth series, created and produced by the KWMU news team, will
air at 5:51 a.m. and 7:51 a.m. during the Morning Edition. Listeners will hear from residents who lost
their homes to rising floodwaters, area political officials, meteorologists,
reporters who covered the story in 1993, farmers trying to make a living in the
flood plain and business owners in the Chesterfield Valley. On
Tuesday morning, June 24, the Valmeyer story will be featured.
St.
John United Church of Christ is planning a CHICKEN
DINNER on Saturday, June 28 with serving from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can dine in or carry out. Meals will include corn, green beans, mashed
potatoes and gravy. Dessert is included
with your meal. Prices will be $6.50

a pot luck meal on June 25 at Noon at the Emergency Services Building. Their regular monthly meeting will follow
the dinner.

A
message from Alice Wellen – Valmeyer Postmaster . . . . . “A special thanks to
all the customers who purchased the Breast Cancer stamps at the Valmeyer Post
Office. Thank you also to all who
purchased the Heroes Stamps. It’s so
nice to know so many people still care to help others as they struggle with
their misfortunes by purchasing the Breast Cancer Stamps and the Heroes of 2001
stamps. Every stamp purchased is a big
help in research or for the 9-11 victims’ families. Thank you so much,” says Alice.
The United States Postal Service recently held a promotion of the Breast
Cancer stamps from April 19 – May 16.
The results were tallied. The
Valmeyer Post Office has the honor of having the fourth highest sales of the
Breast Cancer Stamps in its size category in the Gateway District. This is a very important stamp, as each one
sells for 45 cents, with 8 cents going to research. Nationwide, customers have purchased over 432 million Breast
Cancer stamps since July of 1998, raising over $30.4 million toward research. From May 17 – June 13 we held another promotion
for the Heroes of 2001 stamps. Those
results are not in yet. This
contribution provides assistance to the families of emergency relief personnel
killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty in connection with the
terrorist attacks on 9-11-2001. Stamps
make great gifts for loved ones of all ages.
The Breast Cancer Research and Heroes of 2001 stamps may be purchased at
your local Post Office, by calling 1-800-STAMP-24, or by accessing the Postal
Service website at www.usps.com.
