The Original Voice of Valmeyer

Volume 11 – Number 40                                                                                         October 6, 2003

To look in and not out, to look forward and not back, to look up and not down.

IF THE ROOSTER DIES . . . . . . . BUY AN ALARM CLOCK!

We mourn the loss of Doug Dusek.  Doug passed from this life on Wednesday, October 1, and leaves a wife, a daughter and a son.  The Village has been represented legally by Doug and his firm for many years, and he has always worked hard for the best interests of the Village and its residents.  Without Doug’s research, diligence and unselfish efforts, Valmeyer would not have been able to navigate through the legal maze of the Village relocation project.  We sympathize with the Dusek family on their loss, and we regret losing such a devoted Village colleague. . . . . “A golden heart stopped beating, working hands were put to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.”

The Village would like to pass on a hearty “Thank You” to Rob Nowlan who has resigned from the Valmeyer Village Board of Trustees due to a conflict with his continued education.  Jim Pflasterer, former Valmeyer High School principal has accepted appointment to the seat left vacant by Rob’s resignation.  Welcome aboard to Jim!

A MESSAGE FROM THE C.U.S.D.#3 UNIT OFFICE . . . . . In the event that School should be forced to close because of weather or unforeseen occurrences, radio announcements will be made over radio station KMOX.  Broadcasts on KMOX will be at 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.  We will participate in KSDK 5 “STORMWATCH” program and KMOV-TV.  Closing will be announced beginning at 5:30 a.m. . . . . Should severe weather conditions occur during the day to such a degree that it would appear likely that the buses would have great difficulty making their normal runs, the Board of Education has decided to dismiss school at 12:45 p.m.  In this event we are confronted with the problem of contacting parents of children who do not live along the bus route.  We plan to discharge those students who live off the route at the home of the nearest neighbor past the regular stop in order that we are sure not to leave any student off the bus in severe weather whose parents might not be home.  Please contact your bus driver or the Superintendent if your particular case needs special attention.  Latchkey (Kids Club) will be open if school dismisses early due to inclement weather.  PLEASE NOT THE FOLLOWING ESTABLISHED DATES:

            Veteran’s Day – Tuesday, November 11 – NO SCHOOL.
