A MESSAGE FROM COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT #3 – Ruth Schneider, PreK-8 Principal . . . . . . . . . .

Students in Grades K-8 will be taking standardized tests the month of April.  The Kindergarten will take the Metropolitan Readiness Test.  The Illinois Standardized Achievement Test (ISAT) will be given the first two weeks and The Iowa Test of Basic Skills will be given the last week of April for Grades 1-8.   These achievement tests are important indicators of your child’s progress.  The results are placed in the student’s permanent file and may be used as one source of data to determine promotion or retention.  We want children to have the opportunity to do their best on the tests.  You can help by ensuring that your child gets plenty of sleep and has a good breakfast.  Also, while encouragement is always helpful, extreme pressure to perform well can actually cause a child to become tense and nervous.  These feelings can cause a child to freeze and do poorly when tested.  Thus, positive statements of encouragement and support are most helpful from parents.  Together, we are partners in the education of your child.  Your help and support are always appreciated.
