            Wednesday, January 8 – Junior Class Play Tryouts.

            Thursday, January 9 – Junior Class Play Tryouts.

            Saturday, January 11 – High School Girls Basketball in Winter Shootout at Palestine.

            Saturday, January 11 – High School Boys Basketball against New Athens at HOME.

 

Regular meeting of the Valmeyer Village Board of Trustees – Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m.  Emergency Services Building.

 

Regular meeting of the Valmeyer Jaycees – Saturday, January 11 at 9:00 a.m. at the Emergency Services Building.

 

Members of the Valmeyer Community Heritage Society will meet on Sunday, January 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the museum site to discuss development plans for the coming year.  Any and all individuals interested in the collection and documentation of the history of the Valmeyer area, and development of the museum are invited to attend.

 

We have finally jumped through all the necessary hoops to begin development activity at the Rock City Business Complex.  Following is a schedule for work to be completed during 2003:

            January – Survey work, geologic mapping, final design and engineering on all infrastructure systems.

            February – Roof bolting to begin.

            March – Construction bid packages available.

            April to October – Completion of roof bolting and construction of all infrastructure systems.

 

Applications are currently being taken for nominees for induction into THE VALMEYER SCHOOL MUSIC HALL OF FAME.  Nominees do not need to be VHS graduates - - - nominees must be at least 23 years of age - - - nominees can be living or deceased - - - nomination does not guarantee induction, applications will be reviewed and inductees chosen by a majority of committee members - - - applications of those not inducted will carry forward to next year’s application review.  Nominees will be inducted into the VSMHF because of their outstanding abilities in music and/or dance performance, because of their outstanding service as music educators, or because they have made an outstanding contribution to music in the school and/or their community.  Induction may be because of any one or more of the previously listed criteria.  Induction ceremonies and award presentations will occur at the Spring Dinner Theater event of the Valmeyer Music Boosters on Saturday, March 8.  Applications are available from Marcia Braswell or Pat Wright at the School and are due no later than January 17, 2003.  PICK UP YOUR APPLICATION FORMS TODAY!!!

 

THE VALMEYER PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES HAS A VACANCY.  If this type of community service would interest you, contact District Secretary Jackie Hoffmann at 458-7750 about the details of the upcoming election.  Please be active in your local community and help support your local library.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - BENEFIT DANCE FOR THE VALMEYER FIRST RESPONDERS (the ambulance unit of the Valmeyer Fire Protection District) . . . will take place on January 17, 2003 at the Hecker Community Center with music from 8:00 p.m. to Midnight. Music will be by Route 3.  

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - - - The Valmeyer School Music Boosters are making plans to present their Annual Spring Dinner / Theater / Auction event.  Saturday, March 8th is the date set for “Westward Ho”.  Once again those attending can expect to indulge in a delicious dinner, and have the chance to bid on a plethora of interesting silent and live auction items.  The entertainment for this year will be a comedy murder mystery titled “A Fistful of Hollers” staged by Jest for Fun Entertainment . . . . . a professional theater company.  Also included will be the induction of new members into the Valmeyer School Music Hall of Fame.  Watch for more details in the coming weeks.
