IF THE
ROOSTER DIES, BUY AN ALARM CLOCK
Bygone days were recalled last week when Union Pacific 3985 made its way through Valmeyer on not one, but two occasions. This oil-fired steam locomotive was leading an excursion of passenger cars from St. Louis south to Gorham and then back again to St. Louis. Passengers on the trip were attendees of the National Railroad Historical Association national convention being held in St. Louis. Railfans were lined up along the railroad right of way through the original Village by the crack of dawn last Tuesday. As the projected time for the steamers approach got closer the crowd got thicker. Once the locomotive wizzed past the crowd many jumped in their vehicles and made chase to attempt another sighting of the steel giant as it continued south parallel to Bluff Road. Sorry that last weeks edition of the O.V.O.V. didnt carry information about the excursion, but information was not received until after the newsletter went to press.
The VALMEYER SENIOR CITIZENS WILL HAVE A POT LUCK MEAL on June 27th at noon at the Valmeyer Emergency Building. The regular monthly meeting will follow. For more information contact Edna Brown at 935-2321.
