MARK YOUR CALENDARS – VALMEYER COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE – Monday, February 5th from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. John UCC in Valmeyer. Give the gift of life - - - - - GIVE BLOOD.

This Friday will mark the last commemoration of VHS athletes by the Boosters of School Sports. Both of the first of these two planned evenings was very well received, and the third should not disappoint. During the VHS Boys Basketball game on Friday, February 2, the VHS ATHLETES OF THE 1970’s will be recognized. Don’t miss this fun and historic event!

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO ON SATURDAY NIGHT?????? HOW ABOUT PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING AT VALMEYER HIGH SCHOOL? Yes, that’s right Professional Wrestling – 20 Wrestlers – One night only. Saturday, February 3 beginning at 8:00 p.m. at VHS. See Ron Powers, Momma Love, Vinny the Tank, Moon Dog Rover and many, many more. This event is sponsored by the Valmeyer FFA Alumni, with promotion by the Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling Association. Advance tickets for adults are $6, or $8 at the door. Tickets for kids up to 8th grade are $4 in advance or at the door. Advance tickets are available at Tiny’s in Columbia, Mike’s Convenience or at the Valmeyer High School office.

Another building in the original part of town has disappeared from the landscape. Demolition of the Henry Niebruegge Garage building is nearing completion. By the end of this week the project should be complete with the ground levelled.

RECYCLING DAY – Saturday, February 3rd – please have your recyclables at the curb by 8:00 a.m. on that day.

Mark your calendars - - - Plans are underway for the Valmeyer Music Department Spring event. "BON APPETIT", AN EVENING OF FOOD, FLAPPERS AND FUN will take place at Valmeyer School on Saturday, April 21st. The event will include a silent and live auction, a delicious dinner, and a show. This year’s show will be a theatrical production by the VHS Music Department – "THE BOYFRIEND". Induction of the new members to the Valmeyer School Music Hall of Fame will take place during the show. Members of the planning committees have guaranteed that the 2001 event will be even better than those of years past - - - - - and for those who walked away from A Night in New Orleans with bench butt, the 2001 event will not be as long. Stay tuned for more details in the weeks to come.

This is a book by Carrie Wobbe of Belleville, and it is her rendition of the planning and creation of the new Village, along with the human perspective of the endeavor. These books are being sold as a fund raiser by the Valmeyer Optimist Club.
