IF THE ROOSTER DIES, BUY AN ALARM CLOCK

Shannon & Wilson, a geotechnical and environmental engineering firm from St. Louis, was called in to study the recent ceiling fall at the Rock City (Quarry) development area. Last week geologists from this firm released the finding that the fall was created by work that was being done in that area. Workmen that were doing an addition to the existing Ayers Corp. facility drilled some anchor bolts into a ceiling rock seam. This weakened the seam, and several days later caused the fall in that area. Another company has been called in to begin installation of anchor bolts in the ceiling in the initial development area to stabilize the space.

TO MEMBERS OF THE VALMEYER COMMUNITY . . . . . . The week of January 22-26 the School will be visited by a group of educators and parents from different areas of the state. This is called an external review visit. It is a statewide initiative that invites an objective view of the School and community as seen by others. They will observe in all classrooms and interview students, teachers, aids, volunteers, administrators, secretaries, custodians, cooks, bus drivers, as well as community members. Some students will also have one of these people sit with them for "A Day in the Life" of a Valmeyer student. If your child is chosen to do this, a note will be sent home for you to sign giving permission to do this. If you have any questions, please feel  free to call Mary Niebruegge at School. This is an exciting time to show others how proud we are of our School and community. Wednesday, January 24 has been set for the external review team to interview community members. Call Charlotte in the Unit Office to schedule an interview appointment on that date.

It’s time once again to begin thinking about fund raising at Cardinal Baseball games. This proved to be a very beneficial fund raiser for the children of the community during the past year. Each of the four organizations involved took in over $1700 from this project. Information has been received regarding available game dates and training sessions. It will soon be time to commit to dates. If you can help with this project please try to attend one of two upcoming meetings, either Wednesday, January 24th at 8:00 p.m. or Sunday, January 28th at 6:00 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Teacher’s Lounge at School. Discussion will include how many games to work during the coming year, car pooling to the games, and any other ideas you may have. If you have any questions call project chair, Anna Glaenzer at 935-2494.
