Acceptable
Student Use of Electronic Networks
Terms and
Conditions:
Acceptable Use – Access to the District’s electronic networks must be (a)
for the purpose of education or research, and be consistent with the
educational objectives of the District, or (b) for legitimate school business
use.
Privileges – Use of the District’s electronic networks is a privilege,
not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those
privileges. The system administrator
will make all decisions regarding whether or not a user has violated these procedures
and may recommend denial, revoke, or suspend access at any time.
Unacceptable Use – You are responsible for your actions and activities
involving the network/Internet. Some
unacceptable uses are:
Networking
A.
Access
Students are not allowed at any time to use equipment
without supervision by District personnel.
Use of equipment after regular school hours must have the approval of
the Technology Director and must be supervised by District personnel.
B.
Username and Passwords
Students must use their username and password to access the
networks. Students shall not use another
student’s password, allow another student to use or work under their password,
nor give out their passwords. It is the
student’s responsibility to log off the network after use. The student will be responsible for all sites
that are brought up while logged on in their name or any misuse to the
equipment.
C.
Illegal and Unauthorized Software
Installation of software on District equipment is the sole
responsibility of the system administrator.
No student will install any software unless under the direction of the
Technology Director.
D.
Outside Disks
No disks or CDs are to be brought into the building or used
on any workstations or the network without permission of the Technology
Director. Under no circumstances are
outside games and music to be used on District equipment.
E.
Configurations/Settings
Under no circumstances will students change or manipulate
configurations or settings on any District equipment or software unless
directed by the system administrator.
This includes wallpaper and screen savers.
F.
Repairs
Students are not permitted to make repairs of any kind
unless under the direct supervision of the Technology Director.
G.
Vandalism
Students may not engage in any unauthorized, deliberate, or
negligent action, which damages or disrupts technology resources, alters its
normal performance, or causes it to malfunction, regardless of the location or
the time duration of the disruption.
Internet Use
Acceptable Use- Access to the District's network and/or
Internet must be for the purpose of education or research and be consistent
with the educational objectives of the district.
Privileges- The use of the Internet is a privilege,
not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those
privileges. The system administrator will make all decisions regarding whether
or not a user has violated this Authorization and may, deny, revoke, or suspend
access at any time.
Unacceptable Use- You are responsible for your actions and
activities involving the Internet. Some
examples of unacceptable uses are:
A. Downloading
Students
are not authorized to download software, regardless of whether it is
copyrighted or de-virused. This includes
executables, MP3, and other such software.
B. Copyrighted
Material
Students
may not use copyrighted material without proper citation or plagiarizing works
found on Internet.
C. Monitoring
Any
printing from the Internet by students must be authorized by the
teacher/monitor.
D. Email
Students
may not use personal email messages including those through classroom accounts.
E. Illegal
Use
Students
may not use the Internet for any illegal activity, including violation of
copyright or other contracts, or transmitting any material in violation of any
U.S. or State regulation including, but not limited to, use of programs such as
Napster, Kazaa, Morpheus and similar programs.
F. Games
Students
may not use, play, or distribute Internet games, including interactive games.
